Alright, so I broke out my Beatmania controller after so long, only to discover one of the keys doesn't work. The second white key from the left, to be exact.

I took out the keys box, unscrewed the back off, and discovered this:

I don't know what those white rubber things are exactly, but they must be what makes the button register. And I don't know how the one got broken, but it did. Is there anything I could do to fix it, or should I just find a new controller altogether? (Easier said than done, given how old it is. Eight years already?)

Unscrew the board (there are 2 black screws around the middle of the board)

the part that makes contact is on the other side (with the keys)

Thanks for telling me about that, I thought something was off when I couldn't work out how to get to the other side of the (mother?)board. Having exposed the other side, I didn't see anything off with it. But, I did test the buttons without the plastic keys in the way, and the button in question did respond, albeit tempermentally.

So I put everything back together, but before packing it in, I stuck some cardboard behind where the button is on the board. And guess what? That solved the problem!

So everything's back to normal now, although I might as well invest in a second IIDX controller A) just in case my KOC suffers some real damage, and B) so I can finally play Double more. Laughing Hard

At any rate, thanks for responding, atreyu!

The problem seems to be that the rubber plunger on the underside of the key wasn't making contact with the circuit board?

While you have it open, you should probably cut out and place 2 or 3 little circles of cardboard inside each of the 7 rubber plungers (so they sit between the plunger and the plastic key). It makes the controller buttons feel a little more like the microswitches used in the arcade cabinet, and increases the response time of the keys, since the button has less travel distance.
