I believe it means showing a video of your hands while playing:
Kinda like this.
Kinda like this.

I have no idea how they play comfortably with a camera positioned like that. God knows I've tried.

I've been wondering how the camera is positioned in the first place :p I can imagine someone holding a camera right in front of your chest, filming your hands haha.

Well, when I (try to) do it, I put the camera on a tripod, put it where my chest is (ow) and I kind of have to curve my arms around the tripod. Annoying as all hell.

Thanks so much! This leads me to the next question. How do you position it like that?

See above. I have no clue either. I'd imagine a tripod but I can't imagine you standing behind one. I would venture to bet there's some sort of overhead fixture, maybe attached to the machine itself.

Yes. If you look at the metal rim right by the marquee, you could attach a camera there.

I saw a video of someone playing jubeat with a hand shot and one from the side. I noticed in the latter shot that there was what appeared to be a camera either in front of him or off to the side. In that case though, I don't think a stand like atreyu mentioned could work, as there isn't anything for it to grip onto (unless it has some sort of sticky pads).

I personally don't use it, but I seen some guy use it once for keyboardmania a few years back. I assumed it technically can work for IIDX, but I wouldn't know because I haven't seen anyone record video feed from the machine, so a handshot would be near pointless. As for recording with jubeat, you can add suction cups.
EDIT: you might want to check this out if you're thinking of a home setup

Yeah I do this when streaming. I have a lineout of the game and then use my webcam hooked up to the top metal bars in front of the marquee then just invert the image so its right side up.
^Although I didn't figure out how to sync the two properly until just recently...
