Just want to throw out there these two consoles called the Game Boy Advance and the Game Boy Advance SP
If you don't like one you can easily just use the other one. They both play the same games so it's not like you're missing much and HAVE to buy both to keep up with new games.

What do you mean? they both play GB, GBC, and GBA. the only difference is that the SP has a back light and it is chargeable.

That would be my point; if the 2DS had games made only for itself I can see why people would be mad, but that's probably not gonna be the case.

The only possible way I can imagine 2DS exclusives existing is if the design of the hardware itself plays an important part in the gameplay mechanic; something not likely in my opinion.

I recall that there's a game that requires you to close the lid, so if anything it's probably unplayable on the 2DS.
Then again I think that was a DS game.

I never understood the rage over this thing, do these people really feel threatened that the 3DS is going to get replaced for good? I have the original and the XL and see no need to get this one. I bought the 3DS specifically for the 3D effect so why would I buy a model that didn't come with 3D??? But that does not mean this product should exist. You aren't forced to downgrade to this one so leave it alone. Besides, Nintendo has to somehow offset its poorly performing Wii U console by having an army of 3DS consoles on the market hehehehehe.

The 2DS does have a switch for standby.
The thing that annoys me isn't the different models of the 3DS, but the time they are released. I would of bought the 3DS XL over the standard model, if it was available at the time. It seems like they are missing out on potential profit by releasing only one model at the start.
The 1DS bothers me too, if you can afford a smartphone or a Tv with HDMI you should have the budget for a better Ds model. I guess a reason for getting this model would be to record, but doing it with HDMI can be a pain.

Original 3DS, 3DS XL are still being sold. So what's the problem here?
It's not like they are phasing them out.

That's a spoof, poking fun at 2DS... if you actually cared to google it.

"TAKING IT TO THE PIE" |
First - for people complaining about how Nintendo keeps releasing a version of their handhelds you prefer - you should be used to it by now. Nintendo's released improved versions of their handhelds always (GameBoy -> GameBoy Pocket -> Game Boy Color). You're a fool if you seriously expect that on the release of a new handheld that they won't ever release a new version of it.
With that said - the 2DS I think is brilliant for several reasons. The lack of 3D means that the system can be manufactured at a lower cost. I'm not willing to spend $170 on a system for my daughter that has hinges, but $130 without hinges? That I can stand by. She has a tablet system she plays with and she puts it through the ringer. It's withstood a lot up to this point. If she gets a hold of my 3DS though, she begins to open and close it repeatedly and sometimes attempting to continue pulling the top part around in attempt to close it the wrong way.
People that get upset over the existence of the 2DS seriously need to get over it. Your excuse of "just turn the 3D off" doesn't hold water when you factor in the price difference and the lack of hinges. Not to mention when I take my 3DS away from home, I never play it unless I'm at a hotel. I don't randomly whip it out while waiting at the check out line, so portability isn't an issue for me. As long as it fits in my back pack I'm fine.

Honestly, the 2DS is just a cheaper 3DS/3DS XL for people who don't want to shell out the extra cash since the only game they want to play is Pokemon X/Y.

Pretty much this.
Yet so many variations of Apple's smartphones and tablets come out, and no one really seems to go up with pitchforks and torches about it. Double standard much?

No I mean it looks like it's going to be awful in the same ways Brawl was. But that's neither here nor there.
The 2DS looks silly.

Probably because they're doing well enough that people HAVE to nitpick them.
Or maybe it's because everyone's 'tsundere' about Nintendo.

I haven't got a 3DS.
With no need for 3D and better battery life if it feels ok I'll buy one to be honest.
