Yes, after so many attempts on doing so, the guy who was one of the people who founded Studio Ghibli & the director of many anime masterpieces including Princess Monoake & Spirited Away has decided to retire once in for all at the age of 72. Feel free to post your thoughts about this & what you thought of his career and films.

His anime is among the only anime that gets real respect in Japan. This hero will be a tough act to follow.

He made a lot of my favorite movies. This is disappointing, but it was bound to happen eventually.
As long as we get one more good movie out of him (and from the looks of it, we are), I'll be satisfied.

Looks like The Wind Rises will be his swan song. Miyazaki is and will always be a legend.

At first I thought it meant "Hayao Miyazaki finally reuniting for good". Gosh I've been stupid.
Anyway, even if I don't watch his movies often, Spirited Away will and always be my favorite films from him of all time.

"Power in My Melodies" |
I hadn't watched any Miyazaki movies until a few years ago. So then I decided to watch them all in chronological order and in the space of a month. I was really amazed at the breadth of worlds and characters he and his team at Studio Ghibli could produce. Several of his works are in my list of favorite movies.
He will be missed. At the same time, here's to a well-deserved rest!
