AAA a DDR mix in a Day

It'd be awesome to see you try and complete extreme. You'd have a lot easier time doing it than I would haha.

Ok, there's a good 70% chance I'm going to give this a shot tomorrow (like 12 hours from now).

I finally put in Max 1 tonight to give it a practice session. Wasn't feeling great when playing it and had a bit of trouble adjusting to the mix, especially the backgrounds mixed with solo arrows. Nevertheless, I will give it a go tomorrow. Like I said before, Orion civ mix will be my hardest one to get so I will try to knock it out early.

Here's my basic order I will tackle things in are sorted by BPM. I decided I'll AAA everything from 100-128 as my warm up, then tackle the fastest ones shortly after, 190-300 which includes Orion Civ mix. If I can't get Orion Civ after a half hour of attempts, I will abort the run, assuming I get it, I'll finish the run. My goal is under 4 hours.

Very embarrassed about that max 300. It just felt harder on Max 1 and I was feeling tired and feet were hurting. That orion was to be expected though. Other things that stood out were so deep, telephone operator and somewhere over the rainbow (TBFed it first try.)

Surprisingly I'd love to give it another shot some time. I think I can get it well under 3 hours and maybe even between 2:30-2:45. I lost quite a bit of time with stream issues when I had to restart the internet and at one point my friend 513 came over for a bit and lost time there. Next time I will start with Orion and then Max 300, if the time is good then I'll go on with the run.

Edit: also lost over 10 mins because I couldnt remember if I got Baby Balloons or not and ended up playing it a few more times to get it another time for no reason.

I don't know what was wrong with stuff like groove 2001, I've 1x no bared stuff like that, guess just too much pressure and felt rushed. anyways, I uploaded the entire stream to my youtube




Like mentioned before, a few times my stream went offline and it took some time each time to get it back up and running. to my knowledge Witch Doctor was the only song to not have the results screen shown due to that. And like mentioned before, my actual cam did capture everything will no cuts so if anyone wants an unedited version I can upload that, but that version is screen only and wont include extra titles, timer, and background.

I will be doing a Max 1 speed run again this weekend. Should be even better this time in terms of camera, stream, completion time, and quality.

The main changes will be the following.
-Try using Wsplit to track grouped songs
-Another camera probably for body shot.
-Skipping results screen if got the AAA.
-My friend will be with me monitoring the live stream and keeping everything fluid.
-Orion will be done in ONE TRY. haha, just like other speed runners, get the hardest thing out of the way then continuing with the run. As in... start a new run and play it, if I mess up then I'll abort the run and start a new one. I'll do it until I get it on my "first try" then continue the rest.
-Actually get enough sleep and not feel so shitty.

I'm shooting for an earlier start too around 11:00am Eastern time and plan on it being completed under 3 hours.

I went and did another run though it wasn't streamed live. My plan was to do one run on Saturday locally then another run today live but I was actually very satisfied with my run yesterday so I cancelled my attempt today.



Needless to say this is a huge improvement from my first attempt. I went the extra mile to make sure I used an extra cam and additional details. The original product from my xsplt left the two videos out of sync by a few seconds, I had to recrop the main camera's video over the xplit one to match the sync so if you notice slight irregularities that's why. The following is the breakdown. I group the songs into 6 groups of 7 and timed how long it took to get each group using WSplit.

Notes and other things

-Speed running DDR Max 1 under 2 hours is entirely possible for me and probably a few others.
-I think these results give a lot of insight into speedrunning future things. On average, around 20-25 songs can be done within an hour with players around my skill level, maybe a bit better with a player like Chris.
-I wont speedrun Max 1 again for a while or until someone challenges this run.
-Max 2 will be the next mix I focus on which I expect will take around 6 hours.

For Max 2, do you plan on going for the Challenge charts via Oni courses?

I do not plan on doing the Challenge songs for my Max 2 run to make things a little less complicated. I'll only be doing the playable 116 Expert charts on Singles.

Averaging 20-25 songs an hour, Max 2 will take around 5.5 hours but probably longer since there are far harder songs on this mix. I predict 6-7 hours for a first attempt. Not sure when I'll give this a shot, might be later this month.

Bumpity bump bump

There is really only 1 reason I'd bump this thread, so yes, I want to try a Max 2 run!

I've freed up some of my busy schedule and healed up pretty well since my surgery to give this a serious attempt. The whole reason I never got around to doing Max 2 was cause after Max 1 is was KAC season so to speak and then my leg problems, etc. Since all that seems like a distant past and I've been playing well on older mixes, Max 2 is my next goal.

A Max 1 can't hold a candle to what is expected when attempting Max 2. I might not even be able to complete it my first attempt. There are way more songs not to mention WAY harder songs like maxx unlimited or burning heat. I expect no less than 6-7 hours to have a completed run, possibly longer if certain songs just can't happen.

I'm still in the planning stages now but thought I'd mention it to everyone. Maybe if you have a good idea on how to do a better set up or order of songs, you can post it.

I'll probably do the hardest songs ASAP. If I can't complete those under 2 hours then I'd just abort the run. If I do, then I'd probably go through the songs sorted by BPM like last time.

Earliest time I'd attempt would be sometime in late July. I'll be practicing on Max 2 for the next few weeks to get that mixes timing down.

After playing Max 2 a few times I am realizing just how daunting this task is. I might not even be ready for it any time soon.

I am thinking about a few other ideas to try first before working up to a Max 2 run.

My first idea is doing a Euro mix 2 run. With only 68 songs and overall fewer hard songs, it seems to be a good stepping stone up from DDR Max 1 with only 42 songs. I can probably get it well under 4 hours as well.

My other idea also interests me cause I think more players would be able to participate. I was thinking playing on DDR X3 and doing all available songs for mixes 1-8. I haven't counted but I'm sure its gotta be close to 200 songs. It seems like a huge jump, but given that they are on X3 with all the added benefits (marvelous timing, risky, lots of speed options, screen filter etc,) I think it would be an easier albeit longer task.

There would have to be a few clarifications before starting.

Bag, for example, I would say just AAAing the "Challenge" chart would do since thats they way it appears in extreme. You could make an argument that using that logic we shouldn't count mikeneko rock since that chart isn't how it appears on Extreme. Overall I think this are a little nit picky.

I better question would be to include the 2nd mix revivals, not to mention their challenge charts. My idea is pretty much "AAA Extreme" as it appears in X3 but when songs like Boom Boom Dollar come into play it muddies the waters since songs like that never appeared on Extreme. I don't know, but that is kinda the point of me bringing it up so I can see what everyone else thinks.

You could try 1st-6th, I'm sure you can get that pretty easily and in a short time. Mikeneko rock will clearly be the most annoying one to get out of the way haha.

Also I think its obvious, but yes, I mean "PFC" when talking about X3. If players like me did a speed run for SN2 AAAing the mixes, it would just come down to who can select songs faster haha.

Why not find an X3 vs 2nd mix and AAA the 2nd mix side. It has a lot of songs and no speed mods BUT the song difficulty would be much lower if you exclude evolution and revolution.

I'm still waiting to see what other people are most interested in before planning my run.

One last idea... Just do extreme... Seriously, I'd enjoy doing that more than Max 2 at this point. But my extreme "Speed run" would probably be measured in days, not hours. I figure I can probably do like 60-80 songs a day until I finish it. No I wouldn't be recording the times I am eating or sleeping or going to work.

I don't know if I'd watch the whole thing, but I would almost certainly rather an Extreme run over a Max 2. Mostly because I like the mix better, it'd be more impressive, and I would definitely watch segments. I just didn't play Max 2, so it doesn't mean as much.
