Last weekend, I went to a flea market with a good friend of mine. I found a Genesis (Megadrive, for those of you not in the U.S.) for $20 (use a price converter if you need), along with a copy of Sonic 2 that came with it for free. I also got Sonic Spinball and Road Rash.

Since I'll be going back next weekend, I'll be sure to pick more up, assuming that I find them of course.

This thread is if you want to recommend games for me. I'll be sure to check some of them out. And thanks in advance for suggestions Smile

Here are some general recommendations for Genesis games
Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic 3, Sonic & Knuckles
Streets of Rage 2. It's the best of the 3 Streets of Rage games on the Genesis.
Gunstar Heroes
Strider
Vectorman
Thunder Force II or III, either one is great
Comix Zone
Battletoads. Yeah it's fucking hard, but whatever, it's Battletoads.
Ghouls 'n Ghosts. Yeah it's fucking hard, but whatever, it's Ghouls 'n Ghosts.
Toe Jam & Earl
Kid Chameleon
Alex Kidd in the Enchanted Castle. Good game, pretty hard though cause one hit kills.
Rocket Knight Adventures
Ristar. It's made by Team Sonic, very underrated but one of the best games on the system.
Aladdin
Altered Beast
Golden Axe
I'll go ahead and say you should look for Mega Man: The Wily Wars. Has better graphics than the NES versions, but they kinda butcher some of the Robot Master themes. I highly recommend this because you get the first 3 Megaman games on one cartridge.

Some RPG suggestions, putting them separate since they aren't everyone's cup of tea.
Shining Force I and II
Shadowrun
Shining in the Darkness
Landstalker
Any Phantasy Star game

If you can somehow get the Sega CD add-on for the Genesis, go pick up Sonic CD, it's my personal favorite Sonic game of all-time.

If I think of any other suggestions, i'll add it to this post.

.

I also highly recommend buying this at a flea market if you see it, because it's worth $100 ^^;

All of KNS' recommendations are great.. Except Altered Beast, which is completely terrible.. But you should probably still play through it for $1, just for historical value. Anything made by Treasure is also worth picking up, although most of their games are fairly expensive.

Yeah, I mostly recommended Altered Beast since it's usually dirt cheap, so even with it being pretty crap at least you dont really waste any money on it.

Holy crap KNS's suggestions are awesome

Might as well separate the list into games I enjoy and games I don't enjoy. If it's not on this list, I haven't played it.

Enjoy:
Sonic the Hedgehog
Sonic the Hedgehog 3
Sonic & Knuckles
Vectorman
Comix Zone (although I'm atrocious at it...)
Kidd Chameleon
Alex Kidd in the Enchanted Castle (I'll disagree about it being hard though)

Don't enjoy:
Ristar
Altered Beast
Golden Axe

Thanks, everyone else, for your suggestions as well.

- TMNT: The Hyperstone Heist is decent too. Not as good as the SNES' "Turtles in Time" but still fun.
- Someone mention Aladdin which IMO is superior to the SNES version but The Lion King is also a lot of fun.
- EA at one point actually was a decent company and not so hated. Desert/Jungle Strike are good. They are a precursor to the Command & Conquer series if you enjoyed those. General Chaos is another good RTS war game.

Some of my other Genesis favorites others have mentioned:

Sonic 1-3. Spinball is decent and I give 3D Blast a pass. The Saturn version is better but still an 'eh' game.
Gunstar Heroes [This game is an amazing gem. The GBA version, not so much.]
Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine [puyo puyo game]
Vectorman
Earthworm Jim 1&2
Streets of Rage 1&2. 3 is eh.
Road Rash 2

Could think of more but I'm sure others will do come up with them.

YES.

Also I was a really big fan of Super Monaco GP. If you like racers you should give that one a shot. And yes, as mentioned, Revenge of Shinobi is all kinds of Yuzo Koshiro-soundtracked deliciousness.

Well most of the Sonic The Hedgehog recommendations were mentioned.

If by chance you end up finding and picking up a Genesis 32x/Super 32x system add-on for Genesis/Megadrive. I have at least 4 recommendations

Doom
Knuckles Chaotix (This would basically complete the Sonic games collection for Genesis/Megadrive)
Mortal Kombat 2 (I hope I find one out in the wild)
Star Wars Arcade

Thanks for all the recommendations so far.

I would love to pick up a 32X and Sega CD. If I do I'm definitely getting Night Trap. (come on, it's iconic)

I forgot that my cousins had Genesis games from when their system worked. I'll be sure to see what games they had and presumably post those here as well. I know they had Road Rash II, Sonic the Hedgehog and NBA Jam.

Find Yu Yu Hakusho: Makyou Toitsusen for the Mega Drive. It's a Treasure 4-player fighting game. Then find at least two others.

Then re-enact the following.

Honestly, though, the game itself is great.

That there was. There were quite a significant amount of them on the SuFami as well. Not to mention the arcade game that at least two of the games on the SuFami were based on.

YYH itself had two games on the Genesis, four games on the SuFami, and I think there were a few on the GB and the GG. Of course it had another run when it came to America as well and we have Yusuke headed to J-STARS VICTORY VS and he looks to be a badass, considering he also gets his Mazoku transformation which was in such games as Yu Yu Hakusho Final onwards.
