They hardly publish video games that you buy anymore unless its MGS (never liked), Castlevania (Westernized beyond recognition), Football (don't particularly follow), or Silent Hill (outsourced beyond recognition since Yamaoka's departure). Anything positive from them is on the music game front and how lively of a scene it is in Japan and other parts of Asia. Just compare what they published last gen to now, stark contrast.

It certainly seems like the trend at the moment with several companies, like Activision killing DJ Hero for CoD...
I miss the Konami when they had all sorts of funny franchises going on like Bishi Bashi, Suikoden, etc... You'd be lucky to find more than a dozen franchises from Konami that can be considered "active" now.

Bishi Bashi is still alive though, kept through eAmuse.

Despite it being active, it's still four years old though. I would love to see a XBLA/PSN/NN release of it.

Oh man, I love and really miss Suikoden. I and II were amazing, III less so, IV was awful, but V showed lots of improvement. And then nothing. Sad days.

Most Japanese companies have moved out of console gaming and onto cellphone or smartphone gaming. Traditional Cellphone games are still huge in Japan, and they obviously sell far more copies of digital TCGs / dating sims than they do console games. Dragon Collection is pretty much their bread and butter right now.
Konami primarily live off their Konami Sports Club chain of fitness centers, which account for 40% of their total business. Cellphone / console / TCG / smartphone games combine for 50%, and Gambling / Coin-op games combine for 10%.
I have no idea how particular brands break down into sales, but Yu-Gi-Oh is obviously their biggest brand, followed by Dragon Collection and then probably Winning Eleven / Pro Evolution Soccer?

Tyma is on the money. Konami has its hands in a lot more than gaming. Also, I believe Winning Eleven dwarfs YGO currently.

Konami Sports Club, forgot about that. I believe Olympic Gold Medalist gymnast Kohei Uchimura is an employee for KSC.

This is true for a lot of companies we know as console hardware and software developers (amongst other things). What's Sony's biggest business? Insurance.Post #10 · Publicado en 2013-07-16 08:14:55am Hace 10.8 años

I, for one, would want to see more of the time as one of their games puts it: "Do not play seriously".
