They're amazing, but they don't loop, so they're fairly unusable for simulation unless they get recorded from a 150-ish BPM song that's over 3 minutes long :{
edit : Actually.. they would be perfect for simulation purposes if that happened. Did he mention whether he recorded them in Dolphin and cropped out the screen elements, or did he remove the screen elements before recording?

Obviously, he recorded it using Dolphin emulator, through "Dump Frames." You can disable texture elements in there too, unlike pcsx2 PS2 emu .

I converted the original video codec to xvid 1.2.2. and it's working fine for me.

It'll work fine in that it'll play in the background, but since the dancers have a choreographed "start" and "end" animation, each video can only really be used for a song which is either the exact same length as the video, or much shorter. If the song is longer than the video playing, then the dancers will go into their "end" animation halfway through the song, stop dancing, and then the video will clip back around to the starting animation.
With Raoh's DDR X videos, it's possible to loop the animation, because he took a lot of care in setting up the recordings and the song used to record them from. He eliiminated the "start" animations, and because of the way the camera cuts between shots, it's possible to seamlessly loop the video endlessly. Using Raoh's videos, it's possible to have Emi dance to the entirety of something as long as Power 5, and never notice that the video keeps playing on a loop.
I'll try and record from a few of the Long Versions, and see how many backgrounds allow for looping, although recording these from a 4-minute with consistant BPM should allow the files to be playable and look great on 99% of Stepmania songs, without needing to loop them.
