Ok, so I tried to play some Brawl with people at my school. Their controller set up was Y to jump and not up on the stick. When I asked to change it I was told tough shit. (honestly who the hell plays like that?) Of course I lost then I get shit for losing so fast. also big shocker items were off. I said I could not play with Y as jump and the response was "It's easier that way". At this point I had it and said "not items are easier for you I mean everyone right? I play with items on so by default that makes me better then everyone in this room". Turns out the guy I was arguing with is who holds to game club at the school and I'm like likely banned from it now. Also he takes his Wii and walks off. Way to not rage quit and walk off like a bitch.
I don't understand that this game club is for everyone to have fun with videogames then when someone wants to play it where they have fun it's fuck you.

I remember playing as Link in the first game against three CPU Links at Level 5. I practiced that way, raising the level of each CPU by one when it started getting easy. Never got past CPU level 5.

So found a local player who wants to practice by playing me and some of us are discussing having a Thanksgiving SF (smashfest)

Does anybody here play Project M? Or lurk smashboards?
I play Melee and main Falco. I think that the fierce competition makes this game tons of fun.

I play Project M. I've been lately getting into the competitive scene with this game (finding pros in the area to practice with). I main as Falco on Melee and Brawl (although I rarely play Brawl), but on Project M I main as Wolf. Aside from Bemani games, I center around Super Smash Bros Melee.

It's basically a hack that makes Brawl play like Melee. I really dont get what significant changes there are between Brawl and the hack though.

Biased against Project M primarily because I really liked Brawl... used to be okay at Melee, but now it's too fast for me. :'D
Saw this topic revived and almost asked to play someone except...
How much longer will the servers be up, I wonder...?

... yeah. Used to have some fun online matches, though, just you had to only have two people tops and they both had to have an amazing connection or something. How much longer will the servers be up, I wonder...?

quite frank I am surprised that the server is still up. I did get a chance once, but wound up getting triple teamed.
off-topic: I'm even surprised that Mario Kart is also up. As far as I know or could tell the server will stay up until a version of the game comes out.

BUMP: my heart sinks when someone says they main Falco. 99% they're "techy" which means endless spamming of a move

That is just as bad as using any Fire Emblem characters and spam the shit out of moves list.

I don't understand why Meta Knight was banned when I always die playing as him. He's my favorite character in the game and that is uncool. D':
Besides the fact that a bunch of dorks exploited the infinite cape. xP
I played Falco in Melee because, well, it was cheap then... I second-main him now because he's pretty and likes bread.

Oh boy, I could go on and on about how different it is.
http://projectm.dantarion.com/changes/fixes
Some incredibly obvious changes are heavier physics (obviously), the lack of auto sweet-spotting, l-cancelling has been reintroduced, air dodges now allow wavedashes, characters behave exactly as they were in melee (take a look at falco, no longer kicks his reflector, kick sidesmash, and more), more maps from melee and N64 (and custom ones), and reduced lag time from brawl. Oh, and NO TRIPPING.
Small changes include crouch-cancelling, tech windows being reverted, knockback stacking, and a bunch of other stuff only competitive players use.
Overall if you don't play Melee competitively, you won't really spot a difference other than incredibly heavier physics, but if you're a Melee player like me, playing it is night and day. And yes, all those changes that were made on that page really do make a difference, they're not small things people don't care about.
If you wanna see all these advanced techniques in action, there's youtube videos for every single one on this page:

He's gradually being allowed into tournaments. Even though M2K is pretty god with Metaknight, even he loses sometimes. Although some tournaments will ultimately not allow him to be used, some tournaments just make doing some (cheap) combos illegal. However, that's not a big deal considering other characters such as Jigglypuff and more have illegal moves in Melee.
