After some hesitation, here it is! The official ZIv SSB thread! Discuss anything and everything SSB from 64, Melee, Brawl, and the newest one. Tips, wishlists, favorite characters and stages, etc. I'll start things off (and please can we keep this thread from getting out of hand?)
I main Mario in 64, Ganon in Melee, and i play as pretty much everybody in Brawl (well, Olimar and R.O.B. are rare for me)
My favorite stage in all of SSB is Fourside from Melee, although i'm not sure why.
Tip: Play as each character and see who fits your style best. You might be good with Bowser in melee, so your first instinct may be to main Bowser in Brawl, which isn't a bad thing. But what if your style changes and you're better with somebody who is a polar opposite like Lucas? Get a feel for all the characters and see their strengths and weaknesses and see how they relate to your strengths and weaknesses, because they could change over time. Okay, with all that out of the way, let the discussion begin!

People who play stages other than FD ruined the game for me.

lul Final Destination, because tourney players forgot this is a casual game.

But seriously, I main with Kirby and Captain Falcon, depending on which characters i'm fighting. I use Captain Falcon for heavier characters since Kirby isn't all that effective in that situation, and then Kirby is pretty good for overall use. Final Cutter is pretty effective when used to sting together a flurry of hits against someone. It does suck that his final smash is only effective when an opponent is at 100% or higher, but the item drop can be a nice bonus.

I like playing on Final Destination if I'm in the mood for a straightforward match, but otherwise I love playing on all of the other stages. The game is meant to be ridiculous and chaotic, as well as fun.

It's weak shit like this that made me lose a tournament back in the day.

Last round of a tournament, it was some shmuck Fox player against me. Every single match that day had been played on random stages. Obviously, I go and pick random again and it gives us the typical non-Final Destination, hazard-sprinkled arena. I proceed to hand him a plate of his own ass, and when he's on his last life against my remaining three or four, he starts crying that the last match is supposed to be on Final Destination and we have to stop playing on that stage. Sure enough, they give Baby what he wants and decide to cancel the current match less than a minute before I'm about to end it so they can stick it on Final Destination. Of course, since he's a Fox player, this gives him every advantage in the book and he beats me.

But I guess it's good that we have Final Destination in the game, because it lets me know which people lack any significant degree of testicular fortitude.

Super Smash Bros 4 should only feature Final Destination as a playable stage. It'll make trillions.

Final Destination is nice and all, but i like playing on different stages. And why can't i find a local tourney that's not MM and FOX ONLY NO ITEMS FLAT STAGES HUR HUR shit?

I got an a argument just the other day about this. I said having no items removed a good chunk of skill in the game and I got the "I only play no items because it's more of a competitive fighter that way." Because you know SMASH BROS HAS ALWAYS BEEN A COMPETITIVE FIGHTER! Honestly I've not played Brawl in like a year and a half. Mostly because everyone else that plays it is so competitive about it that it's not even fun anymore. If the game is no longer fun then why play it?

I agree Brawl did go a little overboard with the items but we can have some items. The tourney's I use to run we would have a vote on each item. If it got the ok it was in, same for stages. This way there was no excuses about items and stages because it was voted on by the majority. I don't understand why more people do this, I even try to get this idea at other tourneys but it gets shot down every time. Playing with all items off is like playing a DDR tourney with cut on for every song.

Anyways my bests were Link in 64, Ganon in Melee, and Ike in Brawl.

Final Destination is nice for when you play against people with no skill and hate having fun in video games. I guess that's why you almost never find good gamers at SSB tournaments.

Pretty much this. When my friends and I were screwing around, we cherry-picked items before the match and jacked them up to Very High drops. If we actually cared about being competitive, we turned everything on and set the frequency to Low or Medium.

This whole NO ITEMS FINAL DESTINATION jazz only proves how good someone is at one tiny aspect of the game.

I'm usually very specific with what items i have in a match, but i can work with whatever is thrown my way. But it's handcuffing me with all these rules. I play for fun, and i'd host a tourney if it was for fun, but these tourney organizers are just crazy
