I know this has been oft repeated every year but DanceDanceRevolution really is dying.
There haven't been any brand new, exclusive songs on DDR 2014 except the Awaodori remix. IMANOGUILTS, Chuuin Bunny, Yamato Prim, Elysium, and Din Don Dan all had song data on the 2013 HDD. The Party Lights and SABER WING remixes have been on the master songlist for 6 years. Even 2013 was a little lazy; they pretty much slapped jun's name on a DJ Milo track from 2010 for one.
I could be wrong, but I think there's been a huge lack of interest for DDR in Japan lately, and thus it doesn't give Konami enough revenue anymore for them to consider actually producing original content. REFLEC BEAT, in comparison, is a massive hit and is overflowing with new content every month.

They haven't announced the Vol.2 OST yet, so I guess they intend to have more songs released before that?

We never got a real boss song for 2013 either. DDR is by far my favorite Bemani game, but its definitely on a down slope.

There's a chance they might cancel the OST because you know, DDR is dying or just have it with mostly crossovers.

I would say Elemental Creation was that song if any which isn't saying much. I dunno if it has to do with TAG but as the person basically in charge of the game, he has to get people excited about it and the dearth of "new" talent contributing to the series hurts it greatly.
I believe DJ Yoshitaka is the sound director of Reflec Beat [sure someone can correct me there] and at least he has played his game before...
Even Naoki played Dance Evolution to promote it. Let's get TAG on the pad!

nah, Elemental Creation was boss song for BEMANI Gakuen.. so yeah. There should be a definitely boss song like how X2 had Valkyrie dimension and X3 had.. idk, Tohoku/PARARevo.
YOSHITAKA was sound director of REFLEC BEAT, now it's Qrispy (and TOTTO?).

I always considered Blew My Mind to be the final boss because it was the last EXTRA STAGE song.

This would make me one happy clam.Personally always disliked the idea of a game that relied on sprinkled updates updates to stay relevant. As opposed to a game standing proud for a year or two with solid content and BAM coming out with a sequel or something long-prepared and amazing.
This all makes me wonder how SuperNova managed to revive DDR from the Extreme era... or whichever game gets credit for that. Suppose it's asking quite a bit to think that could happen twice...?
... I'd demand more exclusives because that is probably the one thing everyone wants, but they're forgiven if they're biding time and coming out with something really great later.
But for what it's worth, that promo comic on the last page is reeeeeally cute. :3

It already did with the consoles after DDR II & DDR Hottest Party 5 were released. It's slowly dying in the arcades as Arrows&Beats mentioned above this page.

But it didn't FEEL like a final boss song. It was on the freaking test location. What it felt like was they got lazy and just used it to fill a gap because the didn't come up with anything else. It was also nowhere near the difficulty of the previous two iterations boss songs. Don't get me wrong, I like the song, but it was definitely a cop out.
I think looking Naoki was a real blow, because this game was his baby. No one was going to keep it going like he did. Tag did a pretty good job with up till 2013, but it fell of the wagon right around there. Honestly, every game that has come out since the reboot has really fleshed out its song list with console songs, and since that really isn't happening anymore, they are running out of gas.

These newer games have twice or even three time the amount of new content that DDR did in it's 'heyday'. Even if it seems like there's a lot of padding, there's an enormous amount of new content in the latest DDR, and we're getting a much larger flow of new songs than we ever had up until this point.
Also, just because a song shows up on Reflec Beat and then appears on a few weeks or months later on DDR doesn't mean it's necessarily a cheap and easy crossover. Konami are developing songs at such an alarming rate now that each song isn't necessarily targeted at one game, but specifically made with 2 or 3 Bemani games in mind, and then pushed out to those respective games when they feel the time is right. We know Konami have stockpiled a backlog of songs for DDR from before DDR X, and the fact that they're still working through that backlog doesn't mean they aren't still working on more.

Even still, the number of "DDR Exclusives" is very low compared to any other major Bemani game at the time.

IIDX and REFLEC BEAT crossovers aren't a bad thing at all, but I do agree that some decent original songs wouldn't really hurt once in a while. Also, Blew My Mind was the final boss song of 2013 in my head. IMO, hardest 18, too...

There is no question that it was, but it was only an 18 and on the test location. We all knew it was coming and there was absolutely no surprise.

Does a final boss have to be a surprise, though? I mean, if the song is awesome, and the chart is fun yet hard as fuck, surely that's enough?

When every other final boss in every other game is a surprise, then yeah, I'd say not being a surprise is detrimental.

The lack of any 19s is what makes the games feel underwhelming in the boss department.
