I've decided to make a new thread apart from this:
http://zenius-i-vanisher.com/v5.2/viewthread.php?threadid=4817&page=1
As i'll be talking about the final, retail version rather than the preview. Does anybody plan to buy the retail version of Windows 8?
I'm not sure whether to believe the hype or not. I've heard that Win8 has a MUCH faster cold boot times, but at the same time, I DESPISE Metro, and don't want to boot into that mode everytime I startup. On Amazon, Win8 Pro is only $69.99 (full version I think)
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008H3SW4I/ref=s9_pop_co_g65_ir02?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=left-6&pf_rd_r=0E3PZRZ2FYV65Y9JPZKK&pf_rd_t=3201&pf_rd_p=1280572502&pf_rd_i=typ01 (price may change overtime)
It seems like a hard opportunity to pass up, as it's normally $200. But i'm fine with Win7 and my Vertex 3 SSD. Does anybody know whether hibernating Win8 will reload back into desktop mode or back into Metro UI? This could possibly make or break my decision on buying Win8 in the future. I won't buy it right away because I want some real-world feedback from consumers (not corporations) on whether the final product is worth upgrading to. I'm a sucker for speed, so knowing whether Win8 is truly faster than 7 is a big deal to me.
The other issue is program compatibility. Will most x86 programs and drivers that worked with Win7 work with 8? If not, then that's a dealbreaker too.
I'm still sticking with Win7 until I receive further feedback about how good (or bad) the new OS is. I won't be an early-adopter this time like I did with Vista and 7 (bought them on the first day they came out).

Because then someone will complain about bumping an old thread. when this http://zenius-i-vanisher.com/v5.2/viewthread.php?threadid=4817&page=1
exists
Anyway I'm happy with 7 and 8 just looks like a flipping mess. Everyone is so use to windows now that changing something so drastically and sudden is going to make some people mad. If it's not broke don't fix it.

I'm reminded of the iPhone 4s vs. 5 comparison.
Cause they both do the same basic shit that we need them for.

After having the release review installed for a couple of days, I'm looking forward to upgrading. I hated it at first because of the Metro start screen, but I got used to it after a while. The OS boot time is also so much faster than Windows 7.

I'm perfectly comfortable with 7 right now. Nothing has really wowed my from 8, so if I do update it won't be for a while.

With no way to outright turn off Metro natively, it's a definite no from me.

Emphasis on this. I find it daunting that despite the feedback from various companies, they are still continuing with it.I absolutely detest the Metro design. To me, it does not have a fluid feeling. The simplest of options and settings are buried in a series of sub-menus. Overall, it just looks sluggish to navigate and downright incoherent.
So with that said, I don't ever plan on buying Windows 8. In fact, it's been making me think of switching to Linux once 7 becomes old, outdated and unsupported.
Side: I am spotting a trend. Since 98, every second OS seems to suck.

Yeah, I've noticed this too. ME sucked, Vista blows, and 8 is going to suck. Also, Win8 as a whole looks more like an OS you'd see on a tablet, not a desktop/laptop.
EDIT: FUCK WHAT DID I DO

I kinda knew most people wouldn't want to upgrade just because of the Metro screen, but you guys should at least try it for a couple of days on a different partition or something. I know people have different opinions, but don't just say it sucks right away just by looking at it. Also, it may look frustrating to use on a desktop, but I haven't had any problems with it. Also to those who say Windows 8 is bad for gaming, I don't see any performance differences. I've even seen people complaining about Windows 8 starting up on the Metro screen. Is it really that hard to click the Desktop button?

Yes, when there is no reason to require that in the first place.Post #14 · Posted at 2012-10-22 07:23:16pm 11.4 years ago

I upgraded to Windows 8 via my university's MSDNAA license. No, Notepad doesn't have any ribbon, and my computer is running real smooth. Metro aside, I'm glad I become an early adopter on this case.

I want to buy it pre-installed on a Samsung Ativ tablet (the one with Intel i5) that I have been laying my eyes on ever since it was unveiled at an event.
Of course that won't be happening anytime soon. I'm also still debating if I should buy an iPad or a Nintendo 3DS first.

considering. because with the rumor that Windows 8 won't work dual-booted for some reason, I'm afraid upgrading it because I'm currently dual-booting my laptop with Windows 7 and Vista.

Metro destroyed any chances of me getting W8. Installing touchscreen-friendly stuff on a device that doesn't HAVE a touchscreen is not a smart idea. Also it's fugly as hell.

I haven't had any problems with Minecraft. Still works for me.
I've also dual booted both Windows 8 and 7 and didn't have any problems.
