I'm writing a IIDX blog for people who are interested in hearing on tips how to get better at the game.
I guess for people who don't know me, i go by REA on Prog. World and loluralimey, DJ H, hentai, djkc, cien, and whatever else i used and will use. What credentials do i have? I guess you can just go look at all the scores for 11-12s on PW.
I will update as much as possible, given on what free time i have.
I hope you guys enjoy reading it and level up from it.

Something like this is just what I was looking for a few months ago when I finally decided to start this game. Just read the whole thing and it really made me think about how I play music games in general. Thanks, and I will keep watching this blog!

Sorry for the 4 week bump but I've noticed that tons of players hit the keys harder and make that click noise as for me, I seem to have better timing hitting them softly. Does hitting the keys harder and making that tap noise help people with timing or is it just a "depends on the player" kind of thing? I ask this because I'm the only player I know who tries to play soft. I don't know if that's going to hurt me when I'm starting to hit 8s and 9s or what.

I can relate to this, so I'll try to answer this as best as possible.
When I played beatmania US, I've experimented with both pressing softly and tapping a little harder. When I press softly, I tend to keep my fingers gently on the keys and press as the notes come down the bottom. The problem I had with that is that I am not precise or accurate with my hits. Analytically, pressing softly, I have a range of 3 milliseconds, meaning that I am at most 1.5 milliseconds late and 1.5 milliseconds early.
Then, I tried tapping the keys. I have my fingers and hands floating a centimeter away from the keys and the turntable, and I learn if I add a little force on my tap (not too much, or you'll break the keys or jam your finger), I can actually HEAR the tap, and if I am late or early, I can adjust. This method for me was accurate and precise when it comes to timing.
Now that I've given my examples from actually playing, I can say that yes, it is a player thing.
