Hello all again,

I've been playing LR2 for a few months now and whenever I give the
actual arcade cabinet a go, I seem to time everything wrong or get a lot of
'goods' and 'greats' but not many perfects, unless I know the song rhythm
by heart. Is there a way to simulate the judge timing or timing window of
Lunatic Rave 2 to more closely resemble that of an actual arcade cabinet's?

The difference is pretty vast - from the AAA rank on LR2 to A rank over the cabinet
I don't use any 'mods' apart from speed on LR2.

Thank you

A major part of your problem is that on LR2, the default Judge Rank for songs (Easy) is considerably easier than IIDX's timing, even on console. Changing the Judge Rank of a song is not a good idea, especially if you use the Internet Ranking, because that will make it considered a different chart. However, if it's an official chart, it's not as much of a problem, as those aren't supposed to be played on the Internet Ranking.

There is judgement offset that can be changed, either manually or with Judge Auto Adjust, so you can adjust that if the offset seems to be different from the arcade.
IIDX Rank: SP 九段 (7/8)/ DP 七段 (5/8); 1P Side player
SP 11* Clears: 132/150 (88.00%); 12* Clears: 23/96 (23.96%)
Has access to CS 9th-EMP+PB+US, uses extended KOCs.

Hey, thanks for your reply : )

I'm playing with official charts, but I'm not quite too sure on changing
the judgement offset. Did you simply mean to change the 'judge timing' thing?
How does the auto-adjust work, and how do I use it?

Thanks again!

Yeah, "Judge Timing" is the judgement offset.
The auto adjust should be another option in the same menu. It adjusts the Judge Timing during the song based on the assumption that you're hitting the notes in time with the music, so it would only be a good idea on a song that's really easy to time (and perhaps has prominent unplayed sounds, like maybe vocals).
IIDX Rank: SP 九段 (7/8)/ DP 七段 (5/8); 1P Side player
SP 11* Clears: 132/150 (88.00%); 12* Clears: 23/96 (23.96%)
Has access to CS 9th-EMP+PB+US, uses extended KOCs.

Thank you, my timing suddenly jumped to -20ms, which
is .. quite surprising. I think I've also figured out the 'judge rank' thing,
is it the '#RANK' row in the .BME file? Which rank number do you recommend
changing to?

Now the only difference between the cabinets (or my HDD rips)
is that there is a little bit of noticeable 'animation lag' upon hitting a key and
especially when using the turntable (but hitting notes to the music will still get you perfects).

Is this something I'll have to simply get used to? Or is there some way to also simulate that in LR2?

thanks again : )

#RANK is what you'd want to change to change the Judge Rank. For the values:
0 - Very Hard
1 - Hard
2 - Normal
3 - Easy (default)

Normal is probably the closest to IIDX, though it may be a little harder, as I can't really get A's on anything with Normal Judge Rank (though most charts I've played with it aren't really easy to time). Very Hard makes charts like this have a clear rate below 10%.

As for the animation lag, that may be unavoidable with a negative Judge Timing setting; I think a negative setting means that input is received earlier than intended, which is unusual, so you may want to make sure you do well with that setting (maybe after playing some official IIDX). I believe mine is at around +30 or +50, though you shouldn't necessarily use that, since my setting is compensating for my controller/adapter's input lag and my reactions/timing.
IIDX Rank: SP 九段 (7/8)/ DP 七段 (5/8); 1P Side player
SP 11* Clears: 132/150 (88.00%); 12* Clears: 23/96 (23.96%)
Has access to CS 9th-EMP+PB+US, uses extended KOCs.

In my opinion, NORMAL judgerank is easier than official timing setting : you'll get way more GOODs on the arcade than when you play on LR2.
I have been playing LR2 for 1 year and a half, and when I came to official console versions , I had trouble getting AAs and AAAs, because I was getting too many goods.

Normal Judge Rank is the closest thing to actual IIDX timing you're going to get with LR2 - Hard timing is a bit too harsh, to say nothing of Very Hard. Go with Normal Judge Rank if you plan to play in arcades, but don't be surprised if you're better at LR2 than AC IIDX - most people are better at the PS2 CS versions of IIDX anyway.
If you have to ask, you'll never know.
