I still think PARANOiA ~Hades~Challenge is kind of stupid.

The immense amount of crossovers and unnecessary jumps that were stuffed in are just way too hard for me to follow.

Dead End (Groove Radar Special) Challenge - This chart is just so unnecessary, It's a broken chart, but it's more of a joke more than an actual song so I can't really make this the worst one even though it should.

This is the only song stopping me from actually passing all the SN2 songs.

Sorry for the bump, but of all 53 charts I've transcribed from the 5th Mix Data Bank so far, this chart for BUTTERFLY (UPSWING MIX) from Block 7 is by far the worst. http://youtu.be/2iJMhe5g92s

Out of the god-awful Data Bank charts I've seen, that's actually one of the better ones. At least it actually stays on the beat of the song and doesn't fuck around with weird note types when they don't fit the song.

Also this: (not my video)

While never having played it in full (seriously that beginning SUCKS) it seems to have been dumbed down from the original chart. Don't fix what wasn't broken in the first place, ya know? Which is why I hate the whole concept of X-Specials in the first place.

Valkyrie Dimension Singles Challenge, Paranoia Revolution and Challenge. If KONAMI really wanted to "mock" ITG, they ought to stop doing it right now. If anything, VD is SO bad, that apparently the DDR 2013 in an arcade I go to crashes if VD is selected...go figure...

So Deep Standard & Witch Doctor Standard were two charts that annoyed me "once upon a time," mainly due to their underrating.

I also have a bit of beef with ΔMAX Heavy, because it's speed forces me to play on 1x. And, if that wasn't bad enough, the freeze spam is like playing with some sort of "semi-flat" note skin, since freeze arrows on DDR are NOT color-coded. I personally feel that if only it weren't for those two problems, I would actually consider ΔMAX Heavy as more of a 16, rather than a 17.

Personally, I find Paranoia HADES to be completely stupid. Light is just WAY TOO MUCH to even legitimately belong in Light. Standard feels harder than many songs' Heavy & Challenge charts, and the way that Heavy & Challenge on PARANOiA HADES "tries too hard" to justify crossovers, but ends up making them wrongly placed really bothers me.

If it were up to me (hypothetically speaking), I'd nuke PARANOiA HADES Challenge, bump Beginner Light Standard & Heavy up one difficulty level each, and make a new Beginner to fill the empty slot.

why does it take almost one minute for the actual chart to begin, what a time waster. also that is much better than the majority of the shit you put in the "best DDR charts".

on topic, 19s do suck and undoubtedly DEGRS takes the cake for 18. but for 17s, i feel that one of the eh charts there is London EVOLVED Ver.C... like, wtf is with those super fast spins at the end?

Reminds me of Healing-D-Vision Challenge . And that chart, everyone, is one thing I strongly believe we can all unanimously agree on is simply a BAD, BAD, BAD, BAD! chart, for the reason you mentioned above for London EVOLVED, but probably on a much more vivid scale.

OK, so maybe it wasn't THAT bad, but that one part of the chart is something I will never let KONAMI live down.

I didn't find Healing-D-Vision's Challenge chart to be that bad, especially after they fixed it on X. Some questionable charting choices, but it gets the job done fairly well. I liked it.
Now... Trigger's Challenge chart? That's one no one could defend.

I will agree that KONAMI's decision to fix Healing-D-Vision's charts to contain 12th notes where there weren't before (and were needed) was a very smart move. My question nowadays is, why wasn't it right the first time around (in DDR SN1)?

However, I would also like to point out how KONAMI has pulled a certain problem with consistency; having notes in chart(s) for certain simfiles (particularly boss songs for some reason) sound correct, but be color-coded differently than how it normally should've been.

It's kinda hard for me to describe, but it's the thing that occurs in Fascination MAXX (where "blue notes" act as "red notes" within the first half, and the notes towards the end are all a certain "color"), and also in Trim, and a couple of other DDR songs that I can't seem to remember offhand. Someone wanna confirm for me that the same thing happens with Pluto The First (White Wall)?

I never really understood why KONAMI ever decided to make certain simfiles that way, nor will I ever be able TO understand why.

I can't speak on behalf of the Konami step-authors, but I can make an educated guess and say that they thought the original version was correct when they put it onto the game, similar to MIKENEKO ROCK, bag, and TSUGARU. Eventually, these charts were fixed on X when they realized that wasn't the case. Simple errors that were eventually fixed.

It's not like it's a stylistic thing; it's to prevent the timing from being thrown off on an unpredictable track. Fascination MAXX, CHAOS, Konoko no BIRTHDAY, Pluto... These songs, with their unpredictable nature, would be near impossible to chart regularly (ie., red =4th, blue =8th, and so on) after a certain point, and that's just a sacrifice they had to make in order to step these songs properly.

The old utility for stepcharts wasn't capable of putting accurate 12th notes.

I love Healing-D-Vision Challenge Very Happy

on the other side, Trigger Challenge is bad. especially that first slowdown part. I don't know where do those notes go. I do love the ending part before the last slowdown, but the rest is just nope

I find most of the MAX2 challenge charts to be pretty bad. They're either all easier than the original versions of the song or just plain lack "challenge", and it's worse that those are the only charts for the songs, except a few like the WILD RUSH remix that got a pretty great expert chart on one of the Ultramix games.
A few that stick out for me are AM-3P (AM East Mix), for gallops that make no god damn sense and MATSURI (from Nonstop Megamix) for being piss easy.
I think the only ones I really enjoy are Ecstasy (Midnight Blue Mix), SUPER STAR (from Nonstop Megamix), and maybe Sexy Planet for those ridiculous repetitive jumps on the OOHs.
And the rest aren't really worth remembering.

NGO challenge, Max 300 X-Special, and Pluto the First win. I'm also really not a fan of the "sad songs" from DDR extreme like Tears, Vanity Angel, and l'amour et la liberte, with the notes sloppily following some background synth.

Why does everyone think Konami has ITG in the back of their minds in everything they do? It's been like 7 years since the death of ITG, I think they've gotten over it. Did ITG have a monopoly on charts harder than a certain point?

The 19s do suck though, nothing of that caliber should have ever been indroduced. Thanks DDR X scale, for having the top tiers of difficulty extend into the realm of absurdity...

Looking back at the beginning of the thread, NuVirus still has that "DDR tries to be ITG" mindset that was never really valid in the first place. Like, who cares?

I, too, agree that the 19's suck, but honestly, it could be much worse. *cough* DEGRS *cough*

Seeing how charts in DDR 2013 are wonderfully crafted, with only just a few hiccups, I have hope that a "good" 19 on singles can happen eventually. In fact, it still kinda boggles me how IX Challenge isn't a 19 in the first place. (Chart isn't bad, but good god it's too hard to be an 18)

1; DDR still makes sense in it's charts occassionally. #itgdumpstream

2; It could happen, but it doesn't seem like 19's are even meant to be fun, they're just there to tell you that Konami have no problem making you crossover at ludicrous speeds because they fucking can.

Still, I'm hopeful.
