I have StepMania AMX and currently using the DDR X2 theme. I noticed that the square banners are the BGs. Is resizing the official DDR Square Banners that I found somewhere around this forum, the only way to have the banners work? Just like on the arcade?

A good number of the arcade version's square banners/jackets have been altered, like the ORION.78s and MAXX UNLIMITED to name a few. It isn't just simple resizing.

No, I meant, when using a stepmania theme that was using a square banners like DDR X2. Since BGs are being used as square banners, how am I going to change it? From BGs to the official square banners just like the arcade. Am I going to resize it then save it as backgrounds for the simfiles?

Don't use StepMania AMX, use StepMania 5. A handful of themes have implemented cover flow successfully without the need to replace banners and/or backgrounds.
