Always relevant: StepMania 3.9 final
^ This is the original version of 3.9 released way back in the day. It saves all data in it's own folders, no need to make portable. If you're having issues with stepcharts disappearing on Vista or Windows 7 using this will likely solve that problem.
Also, check the Documents and/or AppData folder (type %AppData% in the address bar) if you wish to retrieve charts that weren't saved to the Stepmania folder.^ This is the original version of 3.9 released way back in the day. It's probably a better idea to install stepmania in your Documents or a Games folder, rather than C:/ if on Vista or 7.
Actually, C:/ might be fine. However, C:/Program Files (the default install directory) is a very bad idea to install any game to.Post #163 · Posted at 2012-05-10 09:20:11am 11.9 years ago

C:\ should be fine even if you aren't an administrator. For ease of access I have a desktop folder with lots of subfolders containing multiple builds and versions of StepMania for simming, theming, compatability testing, etc.

Totally this. I always use SM 3.9 to create simfiles, never others. I use SM 5 to play only, due to screen filters, scoring system, online capabilities and what not.

I can't seem to download this one. It says it isn't a valid location. A shame because I love that song.
Downloads for me, wipe your cache and do it again.
