Not entirely sure why OGG was used, in terms of simulators, it should really only be used when it's necessary to have something loop. The momentary silence was already present in the songs' native formats from what I can tell, so there's no benefit over standard MP3. If the goal is file size, then there's still better formats out there than OGG...

You know how sometimes someone will sync an .mp3 for their simfile perfectly, but some people will play the simfile on their computer and it won't be synced even though they have the same global offsets and everything? That doesn't happen with .ogg.
There's also the minor thing about how the compression rate and audio quality is better...
