ZIv Convention

So hey, is the November event still happening? We're only about two weeks away from crunch time and this would be good to know before people start making preparations.

yea I'm afraid the president of the convention let everything crash and burn. Several of us were keeping it all going smoothly but the banks and the hotel started backing out and the hotel wanted an extra $4000 per night up front AFTER we had already signed the contract. Alot of us staff members are pissed and alot of people are demanding their money back. He pushed the convention into December at an unknown date but its apparently a week or two before Christmas and we all know that that's not a good time to be doing traveling. My friend(the vice president) has resigned and she was one of the main ones keeping it all in tact but the president made too many mistakes and is naive about how to handle this year's con so it's going to fall apart even more soon. As of right now, the summer ZIv gathering was the first and last chance for ZIv members to meet up here with hotel and certain expenses paid and all. I don't know about the future of it all but if anything comes up, I'll let everyone know.

The convention was to be held here in south Texas at the Hilton Garden Hotel from November 18th - 20th at the Island. It might resurface next year with a new name and new management.

It was a well oiled machine until he just decided to develop a I-Don't-Give-Damn attitude. He's already feeling alot of the impact. I can still make him set up another get together next year at one of the better hotels and drain him more of his money as retribution if I wanted.

TBH, his punishment is already happening. He's lost alot of money, is in debt in alot of places, owes all the money back to all the staff, owes me two metal DDR platforms as payment for my designs and he's flat broke with no sense of commitment. Those other people had a death of a loved one so he's getting off easy just like my dad.

Well, how about instead of a full force convention AT a hotel, why don't we just pick a great arcade around the US somewhere and all agree to book rooms at a hotel in the area...

I only propose this idea because it would be about the closest thing to what you guys had going...think about it. If everyone was willing to fly to Texas for the convention then they should be willing to fly anywhere in the US. Why move arcade machines to a hotel when we can go to an arcade? Chances are there are plenty of things to do even beyond [the best US arcade] in the area, and we could even setup viewing rooms and whatever else in our hotel rooms or perhaps at another location if deemed suitable (e.g. a forum member's house is nearby). It is a cheap option which would be easier to plan and book and I think the whole concept of a convention could still hold if we wanted it to.

8otb would be....acceptable I suppose. The place isn't all too large and the machines are always in a sort of state of disrepair...that and I am not sure we could get flat rate weekend prices (would have to manage with the owner). We have agents in the area who can do some research though if we would like to consider the idea *cough* DJJeff *cough*

Well, I'll just play at my local arcade and skip the lines of 10 people wanting to play 1 machine.

That's not the point of this Aegis; we are all supposed to meet up for a weekend of fun and competition. There are enough machines at 8otb to keep us busy at the very least with minimal lines.
