Ok well I took a trip to the Island today with my friends and they signed the contract for the convention in the fall so everything's good to go!! They allowed us to go around the hotel to show me several places of interest since I'm part of the new staff and I took several pictures for you guys.

Besides the fact that it's so out-of-the-way, I'm also getting pretty discouraged at how many people aren't going. If the whole point of a ZIv convention is to meet other members, and the other members don't show up, then what's the point?

I know what you mean but that part is pretty much out of my control. Everyone's situation is different and different members will have different reasons as to why they can't make it which is why I announced it as early as possible to give anyone who wants to come ample time to get everything ready. Even if only 3 to 4 members show up, that's more than successful to us and it's still going to be a hell of a weekend. If I had the power to do so, I'd fly everyone in but even that would present problems. A-kon and Shimakon have joined forces with us and they are doing everything they can to get voice actors, DJs, and all that stuff here. It's honestly a huge risk to take by setting all this up and devoting time and money on it with the possibility of less than a handful of people from the site coming but that's a risk I'm willing to take...
EDIT: I was informed a while ago that room reservations will start soon. I was there when we signed the contract and discussed some details for the hotel and I'll be reserving a suite and paying it off completely for those planning to come so you won't have to worry about the room at all. It covers the room for the 3 days and the buffets and of course, all the hotel has to offer which I can't list because there's alot lol

My friend said that if you cancel before the con, you'll get your money back. And if I remember correctly, final exams usually begin around the first week of December or the very last week of November for the most part.

I would love to go, but I'm under 18 and my parents wouldn't let me go to Texas (or pretty much anywhere else, really, I can't even drive).
Besides, if Howie shows up, it will become 18+ really quickly.

It's ok hooky, I already knew that would be an issue. The live feed will be set up for everyone to see.
EDIT: I was just informed by one of the main coordinators that there will be another convention event this summer around mid-June that will be as long as the main convention in November. We had a meeting after the anime rave a few weeks ago and they suggested the summer convention for those who cannot make it in the fall. I'll post more details as they are given to me but for now I know it will be at South Padre Island just like the main con and just like the other con, I'll pay for the suite for any ZIv member that plans to attend as a show of my appreciation. If anyone needs any additional info, feel free to ask.

I'll have the reservations dates soon as well as the exact weekend when it will happen. Some of the features from fall will be there too but they also told me to ask you all if you had any ideas for anything you'd like to see so they can start gathering the stuff necessary for it. I can have my DDR events at any of these cons so that will be there for sure. And yes you're right, this wasn't done just for ZIv, now that the other cons from around Texas are helping us, more people from upstate will want to attend and we wanted to do what we could to for them and for the site as well. All of the coordinators were overly excited to hear that people from ZIv would try to attend but I warned them right away that since I live the furthest from everyone here, it's going to be a challenge but they are willing to take it on since we have extra help from the other conventions.

I'll suggest the following for a Rock Band setup:
Rock Band 3
Two guitar controllers
One Keyboard
One drum set with the cymbal expansion
3 mics and mic stands for each.
If they can get more than what I ask for, like a midi drumset and pro guitar controller, then the better. A large song library is preferred but the Rock Band 3 disc with RB1 and 2 is just as fine.

I know the head of the gaming branch and he might actually have most of that so it shouldn't be much of a problem. I'm going to write down any ideas anyone may have for both conventions and I'll let them know at the meeting next week so we can start preparing.

The main coordinators don't know just yet. The Howard Johnson hotel at the island has been chosen for the summer with the rooms being given to us at a discounted rate ($50 - $60 a night from the normal $155) but I haven't received the exact date yet for room reservations. I can also reserve a suite specifically for us ZIv members to room in if you'd like but that's up to the attending members. Also, the dates for the summer con are the weekend of June 17th - 19th(updated). I'm compiling a list of all the events that will be going on at both ZIvCon Summer and ZIvCon Fall although they will share some things for sure. Again, if anyone wants to throw some ideas about something you want to happen at the cons(like silent suggesting a RockBand tournament), feel free to post.
EDIT: New info posted on the first page of the thread. I'm working on getting more info and an updated list of the events.
