"DINGDONG♥HEARTS" |
The other day I went to play some ITG with two flashdrives. One flashdrive had 50 songs exact, and the other had 20. The first game I played was with the twenty-song-flashdrive and it ran perfectly fine. I played Power 2 D-Heavy, NONSTOP G D-Heavy and Xanadu D-Heavy. After a few more games, I switched to my 50 song flashdrive to play some of the new X2 songs on doubles. It loaded the fifty-song-flashdrive as usual, but when it came to the song select, it said that the "Song cannot play. Bad Address."
I found it strange that it wouldn't load the same songs that I had previously played, since I keep copies of the power mixes on both of my flashdrives. So after that disappointment, I failed the game and started a new round with my twenty-song-flashdrive. Only this time, the flashdrive did not load. The only thread I could find over at r21freak was this one, where the problem may be the machine. An alternative is to reformat the flashdrive, or to look through the flashdrive to look for strange files that may be causing the error.
Here's a picture of the files in my flashdrive. Do any of those files seem out of place?
I'm also wondering if using the same profile name for both flashdrives is affecting this Bad Address situation. Any thoughts?

it's usually the machine's fault, do you use the built in usb ports under the screen? because those ports are shit, basically.
our machine's got a portable usb port at the top, plugged to the back of the machine, and they've just started getting the same problem as you've got, but this is after many years of operation.
and your profile name wont affect the flashdrives reading
oh and lastly, itg can read _up to_ 50 songs, and it's quite rare our machine does that anymore, even with the portable usb ports, i'm usually keeping 30~ songs on my stick, just in case it wont load stuff. i mean, i'd rather load all my 30 songs, than a few of my 50, hoping for the machine to load what i want to play.

Yes, I use the built in USB port under the screen. Also good to know that it is the machine's fault and that I can use the same the name on multiple drives.

for some stupid reason they made r21 read up to 50 songs without the machine having enough processing power and ram to actually pull this off. EVERY machine you play on will do this. just do what axel said and you'll be okay.

The cache on whose end? The cache on my flashdrive or on the machine?

if it is cache, its when the machine caches everything at the beginning of the set (which is then dumped after the set is over). the machine doesnt save your songs unless you're on OITG, it only permanently caches the score.

You can also format the simfiles to be easier to load. Rip out everything except the sm and the ogg.
What I do is take the simfile, from where ever, and for the copy on my USB drive I delete everything except the .sm file and the music file. Even if the music is already .ogg, I run the audio through Audacity and transcode a 96kbps .ogg file. Then I take the .sm file and clean out everything that can't be used by the r21 machine. Solo, Couple, etc... steps, lines in the header that target the graphics, lryics, etc. And make it as neat and as small a file as possible. My sims load about four times faster than everyone else cause I take the time to do this and I've gotten ITG machines to read up to 40~45 simfiles at once.
It's laborious, but rewarding.
