I'm trying to run a Japanese game on my PS2 (slim) using Swap Magic 3.8, and when I switch the disc to the game I want, the message on the bottom keeps saying "Insert bigger TOC disc." I boot the game, and it keeps sending me to the "please insert a disc" screen. Am I doing something wrong?

Is your game properly burned on the dvd/cd ?
I mean you need a kind of software to burn it on disc, not a random one (i don't remember the name that my friends used).
If one of your friend have a swap magic, try your disc on it.

Why would I need to burn it? Isn't it enough to have the game? And unfortunately, there's nobody I know that owns a Swap Magic. I hear you need to have a special cover to switch the discs, is that true?

Yeah - are you using MagicKeys, Swap Tools, or anything else other than the Swap Magic? Cause if not, yeah, you're getting that message because you opened the tray/top. What is your PS2 type/model number?

what AceJay said. to get more technical, you need to stop the PS2 from knowing it was ever opened for the disc swap. when you open the PS2 then close it again it will automatically reaccomplish authentication and region code checks, as such you need something to let you load swap magic and let you swap discs without the PS2 knowing it was opened.
thats what the magic keys do, for a slim model they press down the switch so it never knows it was opened. the tape and tissue mod does the same thing. on a fat PS2 swap magic stops the disc from spinning then the flip top opens at the top so the tray never opens, thus the checks are never done.
hopefully this helps you a bit, just follow the links AceJay posted and you can get something to help you out. personally, after my fat PS2 died (i plugged it into a wall in england with a converter, smoke came out that back, horrible idea) i just went the JPS2 route, and its the most hassle free way if you can afford it.

A word of caution: The SwapMagic discs are build extremely cheap. They will tend to chip at the center even if you're very gentle with them. If this is IIDX or any game you see yourself playing in 4 years, or if you have a bunch of JP games, I would highly suggest a JPS2. Also, 3.8/Coder is incompatible with some games.

I have this one too. When i play the first time with Swap Magic, it work. But 2h later, i want to change the game. And it redirect me to Read Disc... I heard that the lens must become accustomed.

If you mean by installing the modchip, yeah. But, about how good the modchip is, I have had one in my PS2 for like 3 years and it is still working flawlessly

why dont you just softmod your PS2 with a memory card? That way you can make a copy of your disc image, patch it with memento and then run the backup. Its what I did when I decided to make a copy of a really scratched game I had.
Its nearly free, you just need to get a old ass PS2 game, and a blank DVD to get the job done. Oh and a memory card of course
