Could this be the end of Rock Band as we know it, or a new beginning?

http://kotaku.com/5687362/mtv-owners-plan-to-ditch-rock-band-creators

Possibilities:
Activision (though, watch them try to merge it with the GH franchise)
EA (sensible, they've been a distributor for the series, having a music game developer would be good)
Konami (DrumMania and GuitarFreaks: Rock Band 4......... this will never happen)
Independent (most likely, though depending on who owns the series itself)

What if Konami bought it and merged it with GuitarFreaks/DrumMania (as you stated already)?

I don't know what I'd do. Probably laugh at first.

Lmfao. XD

I can predict the future.

J-pop/J-rock will become popular because Rock Band is popular. People will walk down the streets listening to these songs.

And in order to promote uniformity with the other franchise, specific judgements will be added as an option, and a overhead 2D view of notes will become default.

Idk about this, MTV is making a HUUUUUUUGE mistake.

Activision will run the company down, even if they don't mean it. OR they might try and get Harmonix back into GH again...which would then mean the apocalypse will come sooner than we think >__>

EA sounds good, but idk. Never heard of music games coming from EA, and if they did then they must suck because i should know of some by now that have come from EA :/

Konami. LOL. Let's release RB4 in November 2012...oh wait nvm, it will now be Feb 2013...oh wait let's showcase it at E3 first, but not give you release date details yet....HEY! This game will have Playstation Move/Kinect on it! (No firm release date yet)...Ok ok, release date is October 2013....Nope, j/k, but it will be Late November 2013...

Yeah you can see where i am going with this >__>

Harmonix as an independent developer...interesting thought...neither is this a bad idea...hell this isn't a bad idea, just wonder how if only RB can sustain the company by itself, i mean if they went independent they would need more than just RB to keep the alive...DO I SMELL A REVIVAL OF AMPLITUDE?? Puppy Face

My thoughts on this situation, overall MTV is more concerned over teenage pregnancies and tanned Italian idiots over one hell of a music game...

Fixed.

Also, this really is stupid on MTV's part. Am amplitude revival sounds awesome, and maybe they'll make either a dancing game or a DJ game. Of course, this is assuming they go Indy, which sounds sweet, but my guess is if they don't go Indy they go to EA, which is sweet for EA.

Keep in mind, MTV doesn't own Harmonix, They just happen to be owned by the same company as a whole. I don't really think they're making a bad choice. While it may be one that nobody wants to happen, You have to remember its a business and you have to drop your lowest earning assets before you lose anymore than you already have.

I think they're within the MTV division actually. Viacom wants out of the video game development industry apparently.

I wouldn't recommend EA, they make piss poor games, especially in the sports genre.

Activision or Konami I can't see happing. Konami had a shot at the US band game craze and we got Rock Revolution (Game of the Year edition). Activision had GH, so what's the point there?

I can see EA picking it up or becoming Independent.
