"Give me a steady beat."
This post will appear on the next page!

I don't see why that would be a problem... If it were me I'd just publish the .sm file with instructions to drop it into the correct song folder. It would be the exact same file being overwritten plus your edit chart? Maybe there's a better way but I've never personally been able to get .edit files to work right.

i was thinking of something more along the lines of you download my simfile, and it has everything and you put it in whatever folder you want. the same process as if it was a brand new song for your stepmania, but some of the charts arent mine.

edit- oh, and i started shut me up heavy. hopefully this one is more to everyone's liking, its not nearly as jump heavy.

edit^2- beta heavy steps and better quality banner for shut me up uploaded. better quality banner for i was made for lovin you uploaded. i tried updating the banner and BG for prelude and the site deleted everything, and now it wont let me upload anything to it :/

question, if i make my own chart for a DDR song, is it permissible to leave the original charts in place and add my own challenge or edit chart, or is that considered a no-no?

My simfile category is full of DDR edits with official charts. I would suggest to only use sm files instead of dwi files and to place your edit on the challenge difficulty, so that those that keep track of their scores would know of their highest score on your edit. dwi files do not support edit difficulties and edit difficulty scores are not saved for some reason.

So as long as you make it obvious someone in the simfile information as to what chart belongs to who, you're good to go. Last thing we need is for a new user to think that so-and-so song has a challenge chart, mistaking it for your edit! Laughing Out Loud

i straightened out the prelude problems, new banner and BG (as well as everything else) available.

@silenttype - alright, i just figured since i dont think i could really do the beginner-heavy as well as konami did on some of those that it would be a better option. can't stop the rain i'm going to completely re-do though, because i added BPM changes and a stop. i need to figure out what i'll do about butterfly upswing mix though, that already has an oni chart.

You can make separate edit charts for .sm files in case all the step slots are taken.

i know, its just that thing silent pointed out about edits not saving scores. i want to avoid using the edit difficulty.

if i start replacing existing charts, i'll probably replace all existing charts. we'll see what i ultimately decide upon when i come to it.

tonight when i get off work i'm gonna "finish" shut me up and start work on the rest of prelude.

@hellrazor - okay, thanks for the honest advice. my brother makes simfiles on r21freak and he tried i was made for lovin you and said the same thing. i guess it felt okay for me because my PA isnt up there with others. anyway he's working on that for me, and i'll update the file when he's done.
Good luck, I can appreciate a brave song choice. For the record I have nothing personal against ya, my initial comment was more of a joke (I copied what you said), and I actually specialize in files with inconsistent BPMs, if you look through my files the big majority of them all have live drummers and intentional rhythm changes.

I even synched a KISS song, it was part of Hottest Party 3, if you didn't know I re-created all those simfiles myself, http://zenius-i-vanisher.com/v5.2/viewsimfile.php?simfileid=8464
I would recommend you work on that PA, use ASSIST TICK ALOT, check out some of my simfiles and play them in the editor to see how I try to make all my BPM changes match the music, and don't be afraid to make mistakes. It will take a LONG time to learn how to sync inconsistent BPMs, and it will take alot of work to do it right, you will re-do your files over and over as you keep learning and improving until you either give up or become proficient.

So yeah, keep trying and always keep practicing to get better.

My inspiration was always to make some ManOwaR simfiles, and since they have lots of BPM changes throughout I forced myself to learn how to work with it, and after 8 years I still have very few simfiles compared to others, but my files are ones that other people would never attempt to sync, and they are songs I enjoy listening to or songs I chose to practice techniques.

To be honest, anyone who actually has a decent shot at making a live-BPM file needs commending even if it's not exactly perfect. They can be total nightmares at the worst of times.

my, arent you perceptive. did you figure that out on your own or did you read the "4 simfiles in this category" message at the bottom of the page?

edit - shut me up beginner through challenge done! unless someone points out ways to make this better (i dont like double stepping doesnt count, i made challenge that way on purpose, play heavy) i'm calling it final. Smile now to start work on prelude.

double edit - @hellrazor - i played the detroit rock city sim from HP3, no offense but it feels... weird. i mean, i can SDG if not flag 6s and 7s with my feet, but the purple notes dont feel "right". if it was like that in HP3 then i can't fault you for making an exact copy, but i was kinda bummed when i tried it the other day on R21 because the chart it self isnt bad.

triple edit - prelude's charts are completed Smile

I think he was reminding everybody not to be so demarcating on so little source material.

Or maybe he was sad to have reached the end of the pack and wants more.

no, for reasons i cant figure out he is convinced i'm an elitist and hates me. i've come to the conclusion that he's just a troll because he is able to give no reason what so ever for his conclusion.

You're going to college. Show that your money is being spent on something good and type out a complete thought. Maybe then we wouldn't have any misinterpretations. Happy

if thats the case, i owe you an apology. due to past arguments i jumped to conclusions and i shouldn't have. my bad.

anyway, an oil leak put my car in the shop today (smelt oil burning and had smoke coming out the AC vents with AC and heat off, fun stuff), so i have all weekend to sit and chart. i'll finish can't stop the rain and start porting my PS2 edits over. until i can get over to my brothers to work on syncing i was made for lovin you, that project is on hold.

Few things could be causing this.

The offset was adjusted by Al, it could be an issue caused by the offset which wasn't the value I provided (not that the value I provided means much, everyone's PC may need different values unless they are adjusted by a standard).

You may just not feel the rhythm of the 1/12th notes, if you played in a mode without the 1/12ths (easy or medium) that may alleviate what your seeing. This would obviously be straight from Konami since I copied their steps, although I thought the arrows went to the music just fine, and then there's that issue of Konami's 64ths instead of 12ths, I personally just use the 12ths since I'm big on musical accuracy.

It may simply be the strangeness of playing a file with an inconsistent BPM, especially one that varies wildly, you have to play a few times so you can learn the music, you can't just press buttons like a metronome.

The steps may be off-beat, are there certain sections, or is it the whole song (thus an offset). I'm not perfect but I do try hard to be accurate, I still may have a bad sync section in the file or I may have missed the beat somewhere.

It could also be a combination of any or all of the above.

it might be the fluctuating BPM messing with me in a game with actual accuracy. i can pass it on hard drums and FC it on expert guitar without a problem in RB, and i'm a registered member of the KISS army so trust me when i say i'm familiar with the song. i just thought it was weird, on "correct" burning heat, bag, etc files and eturnus i can do okay on 12ths, but this song felt odd.

also, working on can't stop the rain. heavy is gonna be a 7, similar to the DDR chart but not quite the same. it wont be the same concept as oni.

edit - can't stop the rain is done. i'll try and get unlazy and move the PS2 in the computer room to move my edits from PS2 to SM.
