I had a few questions regarding the general view of the global synchronization of simfiles here no Z-I-v, particularly officials.

First, I want to say that I've obtained a few song packs from Z-I-v, mostly the Universe packs. These have been very well synced with each other. From the perspective of those who regularly play with packs exclusively from this site, are all of the packs about on par with each other as far as offsets go?

Second, IF the files are closely synced with each other, how does this synchronization differ from ITG2 AC, and for those with the knowledge, ITG PS2 w/custom songs?

Thank you very much for your time!

I have most of the officials from Z-I-v, and the packs do feel very much in sync with each other.

Also, based on the few sims I've taken from them to the ITG2 AC machines (including a couple from Universe 3), I'd say you're pretty safe there as well. I get Fantastic counts comparable to regular ITG1/ITG2 songs.

IIRC, in the groove's (PS2) engine uses a GAP adjustment of about +300. This is mostly to compensate for dancepad feedback, which is a little slower than you might expect it to be. This also happens if you're trying to hack the songs into the itg2 (ARCADE) disc, but if you're just playing them with R21 or R23 and a USB port, the engine itself will make that adjustment for you, so you don't have to worry about it.

So yeah, if you're building a custom itg disc, and they're playing off-sync where your files are just fine everywhere else, this would be why. (But personally, I never got the custom itg discs to run right anyways. If you have a DDR Universe(s) disc that turns out well, you mind sharing?)

I started a disc about two years ago, spent probably 50+ hours syncing around 350 files for it. It works great straight from the hard drive, and there's select stuff from Universe and the Ultramixes on there... once I figured out removing the pre-cache files from the stock iso, I haven't had any issues with load times or crashing whatsoever.

My concern is now that SN2 / X / X2 / tons of home versions are out, I want to put another 250 songs on it. If I don't have to resync everything, that'd be amazing because then I could just make relatively high quality .oggs from the .mp3s here. If everything here is sync'd with itself, then I'll just make an ITG PS2 disc exclusively with Zenius files. However, if it's not, I'll have to go through the process of getting all of the new stuff I want sync'd with the ITG PS2 engine.

Definitely a work in progress, I'll keep you updated and let you know when I have something new ready. If anyone else can chime in on the syncing of the Z-I-v files, that'd be helpful; not that I don't trust you, Telperion, your input is very much appreciated, but it's going to be several hours' work either way and I'd rather not have to redo something.

I sync everything in SM3.9. With my USB controller which introduces a bit of lag, I've found that a global offset of -0.0410 yields perfect syncing. I haven't played SM on a keyboard in forever, and I know it differs between my controller and keyboard, so I'm not at all a good judge of offsets.

Basically, any repository of mutually synchronized DDR sim files would be perfect for what I need, it doesn't necessarily have to be Z-I-v.

Again, thanks everyone for your help and your time! I'll start playing around with the Z-I-v packs when I get some time either tomorrow or Thursday.

Hey Adamn, GOOD LUCK. My experience is that everything here is synched relative to each other +/-5ms (which is to much of a swing in my opinion, and some songs can be as much as +/-40ms from each other). So I think you should take the time to re-sync EVERYTHING. However when you are done with fixing offsets, there are also TONS of BPM errors that need to be fixed...

Basically the default synching of the files is okay for casual players but for hardcore players it's not tight enough.

I've proposed synching everything to the StepMania 4.0 standard, but that was apparently ignored. Even some simfiles I uploaded were changed from SM4.0 to whomever is standardizing the file's OFFSET.

Now if you wanted to save some time, you could ask me for all the simfiles, which are synched to +/- 1ms to each other with tight STOP and BPM changes. It has taken me thousands of hours to create and I have about 7000 simfiles (including all officials) and only pad, it's over 30GB mostly due to music videos. But then that's overkill since you just want a few (250).

I sync using SM3.9 RC4 and keyboard with C600 and a easy chart, and ALOT of patience. And with 50+ hours for 300 songs, you may know exactaly what I'm talking about. If you want to sample my synching ability, check out my simfiles, many of the songs I chose to make simfiles of were synching challenges, they are all uploaded at this site.

Hey, would you be willing to send me that collection of files that you have? I'd be willing to send you some sort of media format for them (either blank DVDs or a USB storage unit of some sort). Thanks a ton Smile

The problem with a LOT of the simfiles here is that people use the wrong BPM (like xxx.02 instead of xxx.00) , use wrong BPMs in songs with BPM changes (R10k, Saints go marching, etc), and the offsets are all over the place. I have resynced all of Extreme, SN, SN2, X, and X2, and it took a LONG time.
