"ARR JOO LEADY??"
Of all kinds of great things about my birthday, one was receiving the PS2 software versions of *both* RB2 and GH:WT. And playing them each a day or so has been really fun! But it's also left me kind of... strange-feeling about the tracklists.

It's like, BOTH GAMES have a 20-25% of their tracklists IN COMMON. Stuff like Eye of the Tiger, Living On A Prayer, Evermore, Go Your Own Way, and Come Out And Play. More tracks in common than inter-system DDR titles, even!

Not complaining, they somehow sensibly "play differently" on each game... but now, a lot of these featured artists are major bands, with far more than just one hit single... wouldn't it make more sense to feature a different one in each title? ^.^'

I know... I'm about half a year behind the game here... but does anybody else find this really... odd?

Nope... it's perfectly normal. That's what you get when you choose to target American streamline media.

the kill doesnt even belong on that list. the kill is RB1 DLC, and GHWT on disc, therefore its a RB1 song and not a song RB2 and GHWT have in common on disc. its like trying to compare bumble bee on ITG2 to bumble bee on DDR4th mix. sure, both series have the song in common, but they werent released simultaneously or anything.

In all honesty I fancy Rock Band. Guitar Hero is cartoony and pumped up with horrible UI elements. They're both trying to simulate being a player in a band, but Rock Band actually does it right.

The charts are "generally" truer to the music on Rock Band as compared to Guitar Hero.

i disagree. both are rhythm games, and with very few exceptions does RB ever chart outside of the main instrument you are playing. i'll take a chart like knights of cydonia on GH3 over most anything in RB. GH charts closer to the music than RB does, in way too many songs you just sit there thinking "man, i wish i had some notes to hit". tom sawyer is a great example, there is a section that would be perfect to chart on the guitar since nothing else is going on, but instead you just sit there and wait for notes. i'm not playing a real guitar, i'm playing a rhythm game. give me notes, damnit.

I can vouch for that, most of the songs in RB don't give me too many notes to play while as in GH the notes match perfectly to the song that i am playing...basically, more notes on GH than RB.

As for me, i don't really care much on which one is my favorite, i have tried both GH:WT and RB2 and they have their ups and downs for me...>_>

RB = better songs, better drums, better graphics, better DCL
GH = better guitar controller (not that shitty betson arcade one), better note charts

dont get me wrong, i like both games, i own all the GH games and RB1 and 2(never bothered with the ACDC track pack and i'm skipping beatles) with most of the DLC for them. both games are fun in their own way, but the GH guys just chart better than the RB guys. i dont know what it is, but harmonix just forgot how to chart between GH2 and RB1. of all the songs they share in common, i cant think of any i prefer the RB chart over. on the flip side, there are some great charts in RB. welcome home, wanted dead or alive, crushcrushcrush, down with the sickness, pinball wizard, painkiller, franklins tower, etc. 9/10 times though, i'll play 2 or 3 songs on guitar on RB, then switch to vocals, i just dont enjoy most of the guitar charts.

GH on the other hand, on newer games that have it, its usually the other way around i'll sing 2 or 3 then switch to guitar.

Ahhhh i see...

Haven't kept up with GH and RB, i only own GH 1 and 2, i COULD have gotten GH:WT with the guitar for 50 bucks (PS3) with the Gamestop Blowout Sale...

...but i decided not to, wanted to save for this year's games and stuff >_>

But i have had a good share of play with GH3, GH:WT, RB1, and RB2 so i can see why...

...it's funny, i have only tried vocals ONCE on RB, never on GH:WT and RB2 XD

I'm kinda torn, personally. GH:WT seems to have more intense guitar charts, and I do like the rest of the default/exclusive tracklist on it a LITTLE better than RB2. And I like the edit mode a lot, too. But I really like the scoring system on RB2 a lot better, like with the solo sections, the "Bass Groove" bonuses, and so forth. I also like how it uses considerably fewer Green/Orange transitions than GT:WH (which are a pain in the ass for me). Plus, the "cleaner" RB2 menus and interface is just so... NICE.

Graphics, to me; there's no better or worse. They each "do their own thing," and quite well. I like the overall feel of RB2's Tour Mode a little more than GH:WT's, but I think GH:WT still has a better unlocking/Encore system. (Though the "Play Challenge" section of RB2's was full of wicked-cool, and SENSIBLE themed tracksets.)

Hardware-wise, I hear RB2 has the better guitar controllers, and GH:WT (ironically) has the better drums. I have no voice, though! Laughing Hard

And seeing Ozzy sing "La Bamba" IS kinda priceless. Very Happy

I'd have to give a *little* executional edge to GH:WT... (but WTH @ "On The Road Again"?) but overall... I guess it's better having both than simply one or the other; even though doing so has that "US-DDR EXTREME" kind of feeling about the recurring songs between them.

ALSO: Is it just me, or is it actually harder to play "Hard" than it is to play "Expert" most of the time? o.O Maybe it's the hammer-ons (since Hard usually makes you strum most of everything instead).

(And I'm kind of hoping Konami puts DDR-like stepcharts in "Rock Revolution." That would kick so much ass!)

is it just me, or is pitch detection handled MUCH better in RB than GHWT? not to brag, its only on hard and its not a great score, but i could NEVER pull off something like this on GHWT.

also, RB2 wins in the scoring department. it took me a while to find a song i could do this on without no fail, but this is awesome.
