This could be a mess, but im going to give it a shot...
More than likely the 360 mat is wireless correct? If it's not, you would need a USB connector for that (cheapest one i can find right now is at around $20 bucks, maybe even less than that)
If it is wireless, go to Control Panel and go to "Game Controller", HOPEFULLY computers nowadays can receive wireless connections (which i think they do...like a Bluetooth thing) If not, then well i'm stuck =/
Anyways, once you get a connection, you go to Stepmania and go to "options" then go down to "Joypad config" and then click on the button that corresponds to the button on the mat, then once that is configured, you should be able to play the mat on your PC...
I was able to connect my PS2 ddr mat to my PC, and once i did all of that stuff, my mat worked perfectly fine on Stepmania, but an xbox 360 mat is different =/
Hope this helps! =) (and please correct me if i posted something wrong)

The 360 mat will not accept Up+Down or Left+Right inputs that way. There was a program a while back called XBCD+ which I used to get it working (the + one worked for Vista), but that's since disappeared. I'm still searching for an alternative.

Y'know what, it might work as a game controller. I never tried that. All I've tried so far is hooking it up to the computer, then trying to play on it. I got to the slow down on MAX. (period), but it was crapping out on me the whole way through. It registered some things, but not everything, which sucked.

Exactly, the arrows are being read as a controller's D-pad instead of mat arrows. As you can't press opposite sides together, it won't work as well as it should. That's probably also why the transition from Left to Up and viceversa isn't as you'd want it to be.Post #9 · Posted at 2009-04-12 10:36:07am 15 years ago

Damn it, I found out what it is. For jumps, instead of registering them as jumps, they register them as diagonals.

The thing is silverdragon the links that he has there, when you go to them to download the files they don't work. Unless you have everything that is from the guide then that would be very helpful.

It doesn't work for me I got mine to work just like kynayo, but nothing is working, when I press down it doesn't take it all, sometimes it does and sometimes I push the up arrow and it reads as a down arrow, I don't know.

No fear, I've found a solution!
Here's a link for XBCD+. With your pad plugged in, install it. When you've done, download the proper .inf and .sys for your system.
Overwrite both the .inf and .sys files where the XBCD folder is (default is in the Drivers folder in the XBCD folder located in Program Files).
Open the .inf file in Notepad. Find the section with all the codes for each controller and put this in with the 360 parts:
%XBCD_360.DeviceDesc% =Install, USB\VID_12AB&PID_0004 ; Konami Dance Pad DDR Universe
OK, now right-click and save this controller profile. Load XBCD, and load this profile. Apply. Then you can load StepMania, where you can map the buttons.
HOPEFULLY, this should work.
