Can someone recommend me good security software (firewall, antivirus, anti-spyware) that does the job, free and not a resource hog?
Right now, I'm using ZoneAlarm Firewall and Avast! antivirus.

And can also recommend a bittorrent client that isn't as hungry as Azureus Vuze?

For bittorrent i use utorrent, which Very good and reliable and manageable to me. Avast! seems to do the job for me. but now im using norton internet security 2009. It is very good. i cant remember how we got it free though. But i would stick to Avast! 4.9 or higher. For spyware spybot is very good since it blocks unrecognized programs to change your registry. For a firewall idk. Hope that helped a little.

thanks for the info, I'm actually considering getting utorrent. I guess I'll get it when I stop seeding some files.
Before I got all these, I had a cracked version of ESET Smart Security, which is an all-in-one security package from the makers NOD32. But the crack broke, and it won't allow me to update the definitions. I'm pretty much okay with avast, but I don't know if it has spyware protection. And Zone Alarm makes firefox consume more memory.

Well Avast doesnt have spyware unfortunately, but the program SpyBot is good just google it. It consumes memory with tea-timer though. I never heard of ESet and you're welcome.Happy

I personally use Avira AV. It has a small memory footprint and catches essentially everything. I don't really use a firewall besides the basic Windows Firewall (which works fine in most cases, unless you're into shady activities), but I've used Zone Alarm in the past and it uses a lot of memory :/

uTorrent is great for torrents - uses little to no memory and has a simple and usable interface.

I think uTorrent's just a streamlined version of BitTorrent, to minimise CPU load. Which is why I have it.

Umm... is uTorrent is better than BitTorrent?

I mean the ability and the download speed Tongue

uTorrent is fine with me till now, but I just wanna know if there is a better one Tongue

note : uTorrent can resume broken download (for example : broken download caused by re-installing OS)
it will re-check downloaded file and resumes it

I got NOD32 protection thru smart security (firewall, antivirus and spyware from one brand). But since it won't let me update anymore...
It's the best (antivirus), it hasn't failed me on the short time I've had it.

limewirelord: well I'm "into shady activities" (perhaps all I can tell about is torrents), so I'm a bit paranoid about using just the basic firewall.

XTREME: I want to look for the functionality in tea-timer in another software. It's about the thing that draws me to spyware S&D. It helps me stop useless apps like ctfmon.exe, hpwuschd.exe (HP update), qttask.exe (quicktime), etc.

I dunno, it's just that utorrent can protect your identity with the right settings. And I think speed is solely determined on the seeders. I might recommend Azureus Vuze if it weren't such a hog (on normal priority it lags firefox and renders Stepmania unplayable due to extreme lag).

Well, In My Opinion:

Antivirus: If you are a "noob" users and dunno what to do, just use the easy antivirus like NOD32, or Antivir, Avast should do (Forget AVG, It's hurting your comp, remember the user32.dll false positive), or even Comodo Internet Security if you want a complete protection

Antispyware: If your windows is genuine, Windows Defender should do, Otherwise, SUPERAntispyware.

Firewall: Comodo Internet Security (It has complete security suite, Firewall, Antivirus, Antispyware, and Defense+ that monitor your computer, You can install the firewall without antivirus, or the antivirus without firewall) If you never shop online or not doing personal sensitive things and hate alerts, Windows Firewall is enough.

Torrent: I use Free Download Manager, uTorrent is also good, any torrent programs won't download it's things fast if misconfigured. Just google some configuration.. (I only remember setting port 6881 as downloading port)

Anti-Virus: avast! or AVG
BT Client: uTorrent (so small I even have it installed on a flash drive)

@Oni-91: BitTorrent 6.0 and up is a rebranded uTorrent after BitTorrent, Inc. purchased uTorrent.

sorry for this being late...
