I was hoping that The Safari TtSV would be more like "I Can't Defeat Airman". As in a song about how much of an ass it is to beat.

I don't care what people think but I feel that...

...is the best original song to come out on DDR in the past 3 mixes.

Edit: I would say it is a metaphor for the current DDR series but that's a bit too much.

I think it's a really good song as well. Too bad the chart for it is ass.

From what I've heard about, multiplayer in Far Cry 4 is locked without a season pass. This is desperate cash-grab attempts written all over it.

Might as well stick with CS:GO until The Witcher 3 and Killing Floor 2 comes out. Can't take these DLC-driven games seriously anymore.

Honestly, I really wish this whole season pass business would just go away. Ubisoft in particular seems to like slapping that model on every game that they have. I'm not crazy about paid DLC to begin with, so to fork money over in advance without knowing what I'll get is such an asinine idea. Although with this info, it seems Ubisoft intends to kick up this asininity twenty notches.

There have only been a couple of times where I bought DLC. Most cases I'll just ignore it or wait until a full release of the game. Thankfully, I primarily stick to games with more respectable approaches to content addition.

You know, as a rhythm game community, what are the thoughts on the rhythm game DLC models?

Italics are gone

Rock Band (Legacy)
$0.99 per song
Less in bulk of artist packs
A few free songs, though mostly novelties (Stephen Colbert, Portal, etc.)

Dance Central (Legacy 360)
$2.99 per song + Free download on Xbox One if available
Less in bulk of artist/seasonal packs

Rock Band 3 and Dance Central Spotlight (+Direct Legacy Tracks)
$1.99 per song (With Spotlight, new songs are designed mostly with moves of old songs)
Less in bulk of artist packs

ReRave
$0.99 per 2 songs
Less in predetermined packs only
A sizable free setlist including a few free packs (all originals)

DDR S+
$0.99 per song
Less in bulk of mix/artist packs
$65 pack of 150 songs

DDR Dance Wars
Buy packs of coins for increments starting with $0.99; cheaper in bulk
Songs only available in 3-packs of an artist for about $3.33
Events where certain songs could be won free (originals); also a large initial setlist that could be unlocked (all originals, but including both classics and X2 songs)

DDR Freedom
$0.99 per song; full songs but broken charts

DDR Pocket Edition
$25 for every song and $5 for packs; horrible audio quality and no actual charts

SingStar
$1.49 per song
Slightly cheaper (50 cents) for 5 song artist/theme packs (which might have a bonus medley)
Demo tracks formerly available, may be revived for PS4 release

Jubeat/Reflec Beat plus and pop'n rhythmin
$3.99/500 yen ($6-$6.50 with a good deal) per predetermined pack of 4 song
Gifts in the beat games give incentive to get certain packs (all originals)
rhythmin has a mission mode where you can unlock a decently sized tracklist (and one default song is a vocaloid license)

GITADORA
500 yen ($6-$6.50) per 4 songs picked a la carte
Must pick 4 songs at a time, but complete freedom to select anything from the 300-or-so back catalog, including new Overdrive songs (includes licensed covers and master licenses like HaKU and Suck a Stew Dry)
Events allow the unlocking with minimal effort of several songs (Past events unlocked 3 songs for both beat gather and GITADORA and Suck a Stew Dry's song being given away for free)
A large amount of songs can be tried for free for a 7 day period and give points that you can use to unlock songs permanently, which become unlockable on monthly shifts.

It depends, but rhythm games in general have a good model. In terms of consumer software, I think it can be broken down into these three:

1) Free base game + DLC addons:
The game is offered for free and comes with a small selection of songs to let the user get a taste of the game. Additional songs/packs can be purchased to allow the user to pay for what they want in their game.

2)Paid game + DLC:
The game is offered at a price and comes with a songlist sizeable enough to be considered full on its own. Additional songs/packs are offered as paid (or on the rare occasion: free) DLC for those who wish to add more to their experience.

3)Paid game, no DLC
Like the second, but with no additional content. The game is considered a complete experience by itself.

All of those models are fine to me, but it really all comes down to how the developers price things.

Overall, I find DLC to be kind of annoying. I'd rather just unlock material in a game. When it's the type of DLC that actually offers a different way to play the game, however, then I'll consider it. The type of DLC that I find pointless, especially when you have to pay for it, are things like alternate skins or just anything that doesn't offer any significant change to the gameplay. Speaking of which, I honestly regret getting all of the DLC alternate skins for Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3.

You forgot DJ Hero, which probably had the highest pay-per-pack DLC charge out of all of them: $5.99 for a two-mix song pack or $7.99 for a three-mix song pack.

What most people didn't know was that you are essentially paying for each individual song that comes bundled in that particular mix, so 2 songs = 1 mix ; 6 songs = 3 mixes or more depending on who remixed it, PLUS paying for royalties and even the DJ who mixed the tracks together. You can tell a lot of people didn't really enjoy this price range for the packs, and it's probably one of the reasons why the game really fell under (60+ mixes seems ok for a songlist, but that is around 130+ songs that were licensed just for ONE game, which cost Activision probably millions of dollars to license them all), so if a DJ Hero 3 were to ever come out, the chances of the two song mashup formula is probably not going to be their best route anymore. I paid for a bulk of their DLC packs, but luckily some of the PR reps gave me free codes for some of the DLC packs Smile

I don't know about Guitar Hero, but I would assume they had a mix of individual songs and/or track packs?

Guitar Hero / Rock Band went with a formula of $X per song (usually $0.99 from my experience) with some artist packs for a discounted price. Wasn't great, but it worked.

You just made me want Dance Wars back. ;_;

Someone showed off his collection of every Rock Band song ever as of like five-plus years ago and the thought of spending a dollar on every song or even a dollar on every five songs opened my eyes to "holy fudgepops this piles up really badly," and since then have avoided (well, most) DLC like the plague. And that was also after an addiction to temporary items on MapleStory seemingly some decade ago.

$65 for the truly full content of iPhone game? Egggh, even if it's 150 songs and like the equivalent of, what, almost three games... it's still an iPhone game. But... now that I think about it, I can shell out that much on an arcade game easily in a year or so and not even own anything.

Just used to the mindset of actually owning a full game once you bought it, and having no control or ownership of an arcade cabinet never fazed me. Suddenly, DLC seems justified, and everything I know is a lie. o_o;;;
