User Ratings

I think it was mainly because I was angry because I was gonna be banned, and I thought to myself "there's nothing to lose" and "fuck everything" and...yeah. Typical 13 year old things. And here I am now... returning to ZIv 6 and a half years later.... seeking forgiveness... and successfully being forgiven by MOSTLY everyone whose dealt with me back in 2009.

The whole "inactive member rates you" issue is really starting to bother me. I have not once gone above 20pts (which was my max), but rather I am dwindling down by .1 to 1 point every day. How is it fair that someone rates you like +2 or +3 but then he/she goes offline, which in turn lowers the value of the rating they give you because they have been "inactive"? It should penalize them, not me! I've kept my laptop open to this site so people who I've rated don't get lowered because of me.

I haven't posted on the forums too much because I'm afraid that I'll screw up and people will lower my points even more. The main reason I joined this site was to share my simfiles with the #1 ad-free music gaming site. I can't do that right now. Could this whole "inactive" thing be looked over?

There's probably a good and liable reason as to why, primarily since inactive users that don't even log in to the site for 6 to 8 months can't really hold weight on ratings if they've never checked in since. Plus I'm sure it also involves having to keep the website clean and without any spam/inactive accounts while holding on to the more active members who still use (or peruse) the site.

It was a weird concept at first when introduced, but thinking on it, it makes things a lot more 'real' in a sense. I've definitely fallen back a lot in posting much in the forums just mainly due to work and other life priorities, but I still browse ZIv pretty daily just to read up on what's new and see how the forum is doing. I'm not honestly logging in with the afterthought of me holding someone's ratings by a thread because I haven't logged in for X amount of days/months, if I get bored of the site I'll just move on to some other forum or just go to Facebook or go outside for a change :v

I've had the same sentiment about posting on the forums whenever we had the rating system implemented, and honestly, after so many years of it being on the site, you honestly could give two shit's about it. If someone rates you down because of an opinion you posted or something that they thought was not right or for whatever reason they can come up with, then it will happen. Granted the content of said post has to fall within the guidelines of the rules, if it's something that is not and you're generating posts that are just flat, incoherent, and basically downright stupid by the majority of the members, mods, and admin, then there would be reason to downvote said member.

But I generally see it like this: Don't be a dick to others, post useful or constructive discussions, and have a grand ol' time here. That's my philosophy on how to post anything on any internet forum.

I was thinking that one way new users could get their scores up so they could hit 50 would be by rating and commenting on simfiles. When I find simfiles I like, I try to leave useful comments. It would be nice if this counted towards my participation.

Then again, I could see this being a moderation headache if people started giving negative feedback ratings for negative comments or low song ratings.

Sorry if this has already been suggested in the past 48 pages. That's quite a lot to read through.

Once again, ratings change very subtly all of the time, due to a rater's rating power increasing if they are +voted or decreasing if they are -voted. I wouldn't get concerned if you drop .1 points every once in a while, it's not even possible to directly -.1 someone, so...

For the love of pete, people. Don't worry about your stupid rating, unless there is a super serious change that had occurred ( like having a rating of 1 million for no apparent reason, for example. Cause at that point there might be a glitch in the system). So please stop worrying about a minuscule drop in the ratings.
