I wonder if you can staple a dance pad to some carpet because I've heard that some people taped their dance mats to a piece of wood, and I have the crappy GameStop pad.

You can tape it, or put something heavy on the corners.;)

I wouldn't recommend it. You run the risk of ruining both the carpet and your pad.
You might wanna try buying one of those office chair mats. Like this. Theoretically, your mat should move minimally, if not at all.

Really? I'd think you're pad would slip everywhere on a chair mat. when I had a GameStop pad, My carpet was very solid, so it hardy slipped.

Anyway, I'll just tape it to a piece of carpet instead.
