I wonder... has anyone tried using a Guitar Hero controller to play CS versions of Guitar Freaks? I thought about this because A) I'd like to try it and B) The drum set for the upcoming Guitar Hero: World Tour has the same layout as the one in DrumMania (5 pads + 1 pedal). Curious...

You have to mod it, and even then I don't think it works very well.

You don't have to mod it on MPS, MPG, or V series games, you can just map it to a DualShock config in Settings.

A GF/DM V FAQ on GameFAQs.com (click here then "FAQ/Song Guide") says, I quote,
However, take a look at the official page for the PS2 version of GF/DM V. Click here, skip the intro, then click the top button from a row on the upper-right (they're in Japanese), and finally click the button "Option" that will appear. You'll get two different screenshots of the options menu. One of them shows a screen with the option "Key Config". So, there is hope.

While it may technically be possible to rewire a Guitar Hero controller to work with GuitarFreaksV, unfortunately there is no way to remap the guitar controls in this game so you cannot use a Guitar Hero controller unless you feel like performing some pretty heavy modifications on it. If you're intent on playing Guitar Freaks with a Guitar Hero controller, I would recommend picking up the new GuitarFreaks & DrumMania Masterpiece Silver, which supports button remapping for guitar controls. |

There are button remaps for MPS, MPG, V3, and V4... V and V2 would require rewiring.

Yeah, cause if I would've bothered to read some more, I would've learned that they are in fact pre-set configurations.
My bad!

There are three different control setups available for use with the standard Dual Shock controller. |

I just played GF on GH controller...
Key Config in games till V have Type A, B, C settings and if you set it to C GF will work with GH controller. But if you want it to work right you need to rewire one wire (and possibly get rid of that everlasting left being hold down)
(works also for masterpieces but I haven't tried this yet myself)
Red = Red (GF), Yellow/Blue = Green (GF), Orange = Blue (GF)
so you need to get switch blue with orange to make it work correctly.
the left is not really an issue in this case as you will only need it in name entry and changing settings which you can always do with another controller if you wish to.
With V+ it's possible too. you need to disable the left being held down first. these versions have key configuration where you can map whatever you want.
EDIT: oops...this is an old topic...-_-
