just asking, is that the preferred global offset for itg machine once it set the sync through this sync simfile?

Yeah, the sync file came from ITG and was synced to that global offset. However the offset differs between releases so I don't think it would serve much of a purpose beyond the PC release.

Well, the point of the "sync" simfile is to force you to change your global offset from 0 to something else...

Are you trying to say that 0.000 is a bad offset? It's THE offset that every StepMania build defaults to. It's also what the official simfiles from DDRUK and here at ZIV are synced to. The only reason you should change it is if your computer has a weird problem and you have to move it away from absolute zero to sync it up on your end.

Please do not tell people that they must change the offset just because it says zero. What is your offset? Something other than zero? If you put it back to zero do all these simfiles we're posting magically sync up?

Well, if you end up producing files that a large number of people find offsync - yes. (It could be a somewhat laggy audio setup, or a somewhat laggy video setup, or a somewhat laggy input controller, delayed input due to faulty video card settings, or a combination of all 4 or others.) StepMania "defaults" to a global offset of 0 because there is currently no mechanism by which StepMania will calculate a correct global offset for you - hence the "sync" simfile supposedly from ITG PC (which did have such a mechanism).

My global offsets happen to be 0 by the way, which has worked for all the sims I've downloaded from DDRUK and various other places (including the DDRX sims here at ZiV), but not for a handful in this thread. Again, not all, but many of these X2 sims do not match the sync of my unaltered DDRUK packs.

So far, we have just me and Daiz confirming the "accuracy" of the sync simfile (and lateness of many sims in this thread). And even though there are several people saying the X2 sims feel fine on their machines, overall the handful of sims needing an offset correction range between 0 F12's and 4 F12's, which is a huge range. (0.08 seconds of offsets deviating from "correct")

"Thanks for all your support."
i think the best way to do is make to 2 types of sm files for every song (one with the default global offset and the other one for ITG PC/SM4 "altered" offset) made available for download, IF ONLY this is favorable by majority.

another question:
What WAS the global offset used in making those DDRUK simfile packs long time ago that were all "shared" to this site (especially those official DDR AC and CS simfiles)?
Sillybear has already resigned from z-i-v... Sad

We should probably move further discussion of sync to http://zenius-i-vanisher.com/v5.2/viewthread.php?threadid=352&page=2

Anyway, there should not be a need to provide simfiles with two different gaps. There should only need to be one, and if anyone finds it offsync they need to adjust their global offset. That's how it's supposed to work...
(The only question here is that some people question what their "correct" global offset is.)

Zero point zero zero zero.

Lengthy, attenuated response

I think what's happening is that some of us are having quirks in our StepMania installs that are making the MP3s shift... but not the sync file. The sync file is OGG and is being processed differently (read: better) by the game than MP3s are. This is just one more reason why I want to make OGGs for everything.

Screw the sync file. Everybody, get a fully synced and popular song out the ZIV database and adjust your install to THAT. That way there's no question.

A number of simfiles I've downloaded from different places/people have been slightly off sync in places. This obviously isn't their fault.

This *doesn't* have to be a problem.

If you're running StepMania and think a song is slightly out, during play hit F7 for Assist Tick, F8 for AutoPlay and hit F11 and F12 to adjust the offset whilst you're playing.

Once you're happy, quit out by holding escape on your keyboard and StepMania will ask if you wish to keep the changes you have made.

Many thanks to everyone putting in the effort to step and sync these files. Without you guys, I may be addicted to something much worse!

I'm pretty sure the new 30mb 640x80 smooooch video is stretched. The old 11mb 720x480 didn't look stretched.
Yes it is. It seems to be the IIDX video (NOT 4:3) when it should be 4:3.

Zero point zero zero zero.

I think you guys are misunderstanding that each person's global offset may be different.

There are now at least 3 people who say certain sims in this thread are offsync, so... keep your head in the sand if you want.

Well, Tenshi and Super Driver were both off-sync to me at 0.000, -.0500, and +.0500. :[

Alright, here's a challenge:
Someone suggested that mp3's are decoded differently across machines whereas vorbis audio is consistent. (I doubt the first part is true).
Feel free to provide offsets for both so we can begin to end this debate.

Since "only my railgun" is a 128kbps mp3 (YouTube lineout?), I took the liberty of creating better audio.
MP3
Vorbis

Edit: More files.
Super Driver-bg without that green block
Super Driver banner, because the current one is ugly >_>
She is my wife.avi - NND rip, but correct aspect ratio (and better quality) removed because I'm not satisfied with it.
smooooch.avi - youtube rip, but better aspect ratio
Only my railgun.avi - delicious HQ DVD rip
Decade.zip with an "accurate" rough cut here.

Simfiles:
KISS KISS KISS AKIBA KOUBOU MIX - Heavy 12. (The BPM might be off by +/- 0.2)
shining - Medium 8, Heavy 11. Audio is from GFDM since X2's cover is a fail Big Grin
Poseidon(kors k mix) - Heavy 14, D-Heavy ??.

Chart only: D-Heavy ?? and D-Standard 10 for Dazzlin' Darlin: http://pastebin.com/bNqWrP7e

"Thanks for all your support."
Updates:

TENSHI offset updated. (still no update for Super Driver)
specifically for users with default global offset only (0.00000)

http://zenius-i-vanisher.com/v5.2/simfiles.php?category=latest20user

advice to everybody (again):
for those non-default global offset users, adjust the timing to your own liking.
never depend too much on assist tick to check for timing. The assist tick delay seconds in StepMania is NOT BPM based. There are some themes that when you got perfect assist tick sync to music beat, you get off-sync when playing using any input controllers. So, assist tick timing issues is theme-wise. Most of the simfiles are done through autosync method, not assist tick method.

As we all know, assist tick is not used in playing in original arcade machine.

EDIT: most of the mp3 are intentionally encoded to CD quality (320 kbps) due to hardly tracking/snapping the desired song frame seconds for sample music start under lower kbps (like the case of Fire Fire, Fuchinkan Candy, Second Heaven mp3 etc. at the category before).

Sillybear has already resigned from z-i-v... Sad

On a different note, Super Driver's bpm is not 200.02, which is slightly fast. It's also not 200.00, which is slightly more slow. Audition 1.5 doesn't have that kind of precision so I can't know for sure what number it actually should be. Anyone want to offer an alternative program?

(In the grand scheme of 100 seconds, it's really not a huge deal... but if the audio is being cut from a 4 minute song, it is relevant.)

Actually, what it could be is that for only a few measures the song speeds up ever so slighty then goes back to it's primary BPM. Historically, many songs in DDR that seem to have a constant BPM have several microscopic changes throughout the course of the song.

Challenge steps and fixed sample start for Captain jack (Grandale Remix).

Also, the sample start for If You Were Here has not yet been fixed. It's 53.82.
