A few is good, actually. More than that would be too much.

It has been toned down overall, but not to the point where there are more 7's than 8's.

Actually, I like having a game with a whole bunch of songs I don't know. I spend the first ten minutes saying how much I'm going to hate the game because it's so unfamiliar, and within a week, I end up loving most of the songlist. It's happened to me with just about every XBox DDR so far.
Lack of ten-footers sucks, but that's what Edit Mode is for. The Tide, Orange Sky, and Elfadiciell sound like they're begging for even harder charts.
