Okay, I'm a noob to DDR, so I don't know where Max.(period) came from, but I've come across enough snippets to perk my curiosity. I heard someone say it was just joke file or something? Where did it come from and whatnot? Did it cause an uproar when it came out?

It's from Extreme PS2 JP, and that remains to be the only DDR it has ever been on.
It lead many to think it was the end of DDr what with being called "period" and all, the background movie showing random clips of Konami composers at work and the voice at the saying "thank you for palying".
It speeds up to 600BPM for the last part of the song, and people hate it musically. I don't think it's so bad.

But I did not like the Oni Chart, it should be harder than Heavy.

The Oni chart was fine, I thought. kakumei oni was easier than the heavy, and so was DDR. Although I suppose DDR could be subject to opinion...
I was a bit dissapointed how alot of the beginning was just mirrored from Heavy.

I've heard the music and seen the charts, I just didn't know the story. Now it makes sense.
I don't like the look of the heavy chart, too many jumps for my taste. I never play Unreal for the same reason. If I want to feel like I've been shot in the leg, I'll take a gun and do it properly, thanks. (this opinion is subject to change without notice as my skill advances)
btw, if I play it, I'll use C400, just like I do for every other song with stupid speed changes that I don't want to memorize.

The speed changes aren't really hard to memorize and I wouldn't say they were stupid, just unecessary. But that doesn't mean it makes it bad.
It's just 300, 180, 300, 600. It's all pretty straight forward. Although it's understandable if you have trouble reading the arrows at 600.

I top out at ~450 for comfortable reading on my feet. A couple times I've done 540, but I was flailing to hit the arrows, not moving as smoothly as I like to be. I can handle 600 on a PS2 controller though.
And I have trouble reading the 8ths at 300. >_< Really, it's weird, but I did much better on Max 300 when I set it to x1.5 than on x1. I think I need to go back to x1, and relearn reading 8ths, now that I've got the speed for them. Otherwise I won't be able to do 10's because I won't know where to step.
pchuownsu: Yeah, I suck.
I've only been playing for 8 months. Plus 600 is about where I start to see ghosting effects on the arrows due to the LCD screen I use. Not terrible ghosting effects, but just enough to slow me down by that critical amount.

if you cap out at 540, playing on X1 isnt what you need to do. dont get me wrong, knowing X1 is awesome because you can hog the machine for 20 minutes with the right oni courses, but you need to be able to speed read as well. i can read X1, but i can also read 700-750 BPM. i play most stuff around 600 BPM, so max.(period) is about normal speed for me. most people who play 10s consider 600 an average BPM, for example on songs like PSM or max300, its not uncommon to see someone play on X2, on songs like the beginning in ITG X4 or X5 is very common.

Well, I mentioned x1, because my brain isn't used to the pattern of the arrows being close together, so I misinterpret 16ths and high speed 8ths. So I was thinking that getting used to the shapes in x1 would make it easier to step them correctly when they're much faster. I guess I could just go what you consider the normal route and just use whatever speed mod separates the arrows enough for me.
And I said I cap out at 450, not 540. At 540, I miss a fair amount, and hit a bit too late. Thus, I consider it beyond what I can perform well at.

Yes, it was a 'joke file' of sorts. From what I've heard, Konami were pissed off with people sending in Max remixes expecting to be in the games, many of which being 600 BPM. So Konami went into 'What If' mode and made the ultimate fan made mix, asking 'Why do you need Konami Original songs?' This also probably meant that they were planning dropping the 'Xth Mix' title from the DDR titles beforehand ('Thank you for playing' possibly meaning the end of one phase and the beginning of a new one [SuperNOVA]. Basically, we'll see a 1200 BPM one on the PS3 version of DDR SuperNOVA8 JP...j/k)

Yuuichi Asami was the perfect person to make that Max Remix when you explain it that way. I think it might have pissed him off more than the other composers.
Think about it...
MAX. was his first boss song. And it was a MAX. With 9 footer basic and difficult charts. Topping out at 600 BPM.
And then he spawned Fascination ~eternal love mix~ and Pluto Relinquish. Songs guaranteed to kill. Songs that no one else touched (Except Pluto. Who made Pluto the First?
)
Remember people, when you are in the hospital from playing FELMO or PRO, blame yourselves. You created this monster.

Actually, I believe MAX. (period) was because Extreme was almost the last DDR. So it was the last MAX, and the last song potentially.
Also, I think Pluto the First is NAOKI.

Actually, I attempted FELMO and PRO in the same night a week or so ago. I failed both, but I didn't end up in the hospital. ;)
And Pluto the First was made by White Wall. I expect we'll learn it's another Naoki alias, since 2MB doesn't have that many aliases, whereas Naoki makes up a new one every month.
Anway, back on topic, thanks for the story, now it makes sense. Well, except for the bit about fans making 18401564891365408957 max remixes, that seems silly of the fans, but whatever.

I'd say whoever did the original Pluto (v.likely do be Naoki) did PtF (Black Hole = White Wall?)
Anyway, as for the MAX remixes, it was around about when the Legend of Max came out, and people got all dazzled by the fact that the song reached 666 BPM. So they probably thought that they could make 'the next big song'. After all, it wouldn't have been that long since the 5thMix Musicianship contest, so maybe the musicians who took part and didn't win the first one thought that it had unofficially started? Either way, it was back in '01-'03. People have probably forgotten all about that now.

Pluto, in the OST, was credited to NM SEQUENCE UNLIMITED. So yeah, it's Naoki.
