Hello, I'm an old retired former DDRer known back in the day as the "DDR Audiophile" and, by some, "The Audio Nut". You may have seen my past simfile works of songs such as Eminem's "Just Lose It" and my ambitious Cheesemix 2 entry of 2gether's "U + Me = Us". You may have heard of my efforts to improve the audio experience of DDR simulation with a project known as "DDResampled".
Even though I really don't play DDR anymore, every now and then I get the urge to head to a local arcade and bring some custom songs to a local ITG2 machine, and while I excel at sound editing and synchronization to do so, stepping isn't really my forte.
What I'm looking for is a good, creative DDR stepchart pattern author to put steps to my simfile creations every now and then and be paid in return.
Basically the process will be like this:
I will supply the audio and a pre-synchronized simfile for the candidate to generate a stepchart. This may or may not include step timing concept steps that should be heeded for the heavy stepchart. The candidate will do their thing and then submit the stepchart to myself for approval. Light, Standard and Heavy stepcharts will be a minimum. I may ask for something to be changed before approval, but once approved, the candidate will be given $10 for the time and effort for each song stepped. This will be given via PayPal.
Other thoughts:
- Note that I am a fan of stepping to the beat and I do not like stepping to lyrics unless there is a justifiable reason for it. This should be reflected in my timing concepts. Over-use of "lyric stepping" (which I might see as any use at all) could lead to rejection.
- Typical turnaround sought for will be a couple of days. If a low turnaround is sought after and received (such as a few hours), more compensation will be given.
- Since the target destination is an ITG machine, I'm not worried about graphics.
- I will relinquish all non-commercial rights to my work (provided credit is given) and will not commercially use any stepchart received. In layman's terms, this means I don't care if you non-commercially release a simfile of what I give you.
- I have to shorten to 2:00 any edit I make to be playable on ITG, sometimes this requires making cuts I wouldn't normally make, that being said if you'd like any derivative of the audio I provide for your personal or non-commercial use, such as a longer cut, etc., I'll see what I can do.
- I do work with lossless audio, however I can compress to Vorbis if this is a problem. I WILL NOT WORK WITH MP3.
- Once selected as a candidate I'll have a handful of songs to be stepped right off the bat.
- If you'd like me to perform audio treatment to songs of your choice instead of receiving money, that is fine with me.
If you have any questions, you can post here and I will respond in kind when I can. Interested candidates should PM me with some examples of their stepping and I will get back to those I am interested in.

Not going to say this is a bad idea, but the community would have been more than happy to do this for free, I think.

This is true. You may not get the turnaround time you want, because a lot of simfile makers don't like to feel pressured to create good steps in a short time (unless it's for a simfile contest hahaha), but if you're willing to trade the monetary compensation for a few extra days' wait you'll probably get more bites.
Also, it's worth giving some details on what sort of genres you've got in your stash, and maybe even some specific track names/samples.

OK, well here's what I had ready to go:
Lady Gaga - Alejandro
http://cybertootie.net/ddresampled/downloads/Alejandro.7z
Here's some others I have done audio edits for and might like done at some point:
David Guetta - Sexy Chick (ITG Edit)
Lady Gaga - Electric Chapel (ITG Edit)
Lady Gaga - Judas (ITG Edit)
Lady Gaga - Scheiße (ITG Edit)
The Lonely Island - I Just Had Sex (ITG Edit)
The Lonely Island - Turtleneck & Chain (ITG Edit)
Tommy Trash - Need Me to Stay (ITG Edit)
LMFAO - Sexy and I Know It (ITG Edit Effort)
In the future, I don't know. Whatever makes me think "haha, this would be awesome in DDR". I know I've wanted to take do one of those folk or whatever songs on the alternate Titanic movie soundtrack for the LOLs, but the syncing work on that would be nightmare.

I see someone else is a Lady Gaga fan!
I already have files for Judas and Scheiße if you wanted to look at them. I'm a fan of lyric stepping though, so I suspect they might not be your cup of tea. I also do DDR-style charts, which may also turn you off.

Being somewhat of an audiophile, at least on the digital representation portion of it, I highly prefer lossless sources. In the case of ITG once everything is completed I can tinker with the audio a bit to optimize for playback on an arcade machine (this is one example of where louder IS better) and encode a Vorbis file at the maximum quality setting permissible by ITG's file size restriction. With someone else's work, I can't do that, because no one else releases with lossless audio. And based on my experience in the DDR scene, most simfiles include transcoded audio, many include poor sound editing and as someone with a trained ear like mine these kinds of issues are tough to ignore especially if I know the song. That and I guess I'm an old-schooler when it comes to stepping theory, if that makes any sense.
I took at look at your Scheibe, and I don't mean to impute your work, but our step preferences are way off. Sound quality is very good for a 128kbps MP3 and the editing is accurate, but you made an edit at the beginning that I definitely would not have considered making.
Sound editing can be an artform. In this context, you want to get the most out of the song you can in the short timeframe you have while staying musically true to the song. In the case of Scheiße, I think I did a really good job, have a listen if you want. (FLAC)

Your link gives me a 404.
I wasn't entirely comfortable with that cut either, but I would have rather had that than Gaga repeating German for 40 seconds. Love the song, but the intro is way too long and unnecessary IMO.

Heh, to be honest, I think that cut sounds just as weird as mine to someone who knows the song.
But I digress. Glad to see a Godga fan.

Well the thing that makes your edit unsuitable in my eyes is really due to the terrible mastering of the song; the levels just don't match up between the edit points and it's overwhelmingly obvious. That's another factor you have to deal with. If the mastering wasn't the way it is it'd probably work for me.
I haven't heard any responses to my offer at all so I'm upping the offer to $10 per song.

I'm not a big fan of automation, sorry. I go so far as to set my own ReplayGain values. Uber nerdy, I know.
Thanks for trying.

Have you tried using the RECORD function?
You hit the notes when you feel it right.

I made some steps. I dunno if you'll like them, though. I also included some of my old graphics with the file.

I used the base you included for

Thanks, I'll check it out and if it's all good send some love to your e-mail.
No real positive experiences using record, although it makes for great party fun.

I don't have a PayPal tied to my e-mail, so if you like it I need to get that taken care of.
