So I just got a Dao controller along with a copy of Empress. I was playing around and I noticed that the timing was off so I went to Options and adjusted the timing. But I can't seem to get it right. If I adjust it this way, it seems too slow. So I'd move it to the other way and it's way too fast. In addition to that, I began to doubt my own playing abilities. Am I not getting the shiny Greats because the timing is off or do I just suck? Similarly, when I DO get shiny Greats, I ask myself: Did I hit those notes because I adjusted the right timing or is my hand responding to the visual cues when the notes reaches the red line. Hopefully someone could maybe give this noob some suggestions on how I can get this right. =\
Better yet, whoever has my TV model (Sony BZ21M40), can you tell me how much faster or slower did you set the game at. The best I could get was -3.5. Really sorry when a noob like me asks a nooby question. =\

I can't tell if your TV's a CRT or LCD from this search:
http://www.google.com/search?tbm=isch&hl=en&source=hp&biw=1680&bih=956&q=sony+BZ21M40&btnG=Search+Images&gbv=2&oq=sony+BZ21M40&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&gs_sm=s&gs_upl=1541l1541l0l2624l1l1l0l0l0l0l66l66l1l1l0
If it's a CRT you shouldn't have to adjust timing at all. Do you have the PS2 going straight into the TV or do you have a video switcher/chooser/selector of some sort inbetween? Also, are you using Composite (Yellow + Red, White) or Component (Red, Green, Blue + Red, White) cables?
If it's an LCD, you're pretty much on your own there. Some LCDs just don't sync up well, even with the .1 increments on Empress...

Hey there. It's a CRT. My PS2 goes straight into the TV. And I'm using composite cables. I can't be too sure whether or not it's an issue regarding the game or my TV or just me being horrible at it. I highly doubt it's my incompetency of the game though, since I'd always get really high scores in Pop'n Music, which by the way syncs perfectly on the same TV.

I want to ask you two things:
1) What level do you usually play on?
2) Were you used to play with a JKOC or USKOC before upgrading to the DJDAO?

Timing is slightly different if you played on a KOC for a while and then transfer to a Dao, especially if the KOC was key/cardboard/euro-penny/dvdcase-modded. I'm not the best but I can pass 10s and 11s, and when I switch styles, for example anything recent back to Happy Sky, I have no trouble adjusting...

The fact is that you need more strength to accurately press your DJDAO buttons (at least that happened with my sanwas) because they are harder. So your fingers might need an extra run-up to gain enough momentum.

I see. I just started playing Beatmania 3 days ago so I can only go up to Level 7's and 8's for now. But I do have experience in other games.
PS My Dao has Dao buttons with Omron switches. They probably need some breaking in from what I've read on other forums. Thanks for the help guys.
