Does anybody else think that with higher bitrates being the norm, that perhaps older simfile categories should be revisited and have their OST's re-ripped with higher quality audio? Best case, the timing on the files should be identical anyways, worst case, a minor GAP adjustment would be needed.
I mean, if you have them, just compare the original SP-TRIP MACHINE (Jungle Mix) or PARANOiA MAX -DIRTY MIX- mp3 with the (SMM-Special) one. Or do you think it's a matter of original-game authenticity?

I think that all the audio should be re-ripped in 320kbps Ogg Vorbis. For file integrity, audio quality, and the best simulator support possible. Any computer capable of running the current version of StepMania can play that grade of audio file without any kind of problem.
And if your computer doesn't already, adding the ability to playback .ogg files outside of StepMania is trivial.

i have a project of lossless (flac) rips of ddr 1st-8th songs, from the best possible sources (OSTs, v-rares, and ps2 adpcm rips for a few remaining songs), it is about 5 GB. they were sorted/grouped and gap-synched to be compatible with the original ddruk bumper packs (because they were still alive when i did this). the songs in beware extreme are ogg encodings of these.
edit: also includes solo and club songs (and not just the ones in extreme).
