I encountered this problem while trying out the X2 theme last night:
The folder banners works as fine as you can see, but I can't really explain the song banners/jackets. Is there a way to fix this?

Are you using Stepmania 5 alpha 1? Apparently that had an issue with loading simfile graphics that was fixed in alpha 1a.

There's a newer version, SM5 Alpha 2.
Use that.

I also have problems with banners & backgrounds in SM5. The files may be there in the folders, but all it shows is a pink blank screen instead of the background, or it just doesn't detect that it's there at all. Is it because of the format of the files, or is there really something else wrong with SM5?

@NuVirus: try deleting your cache, perhaps. If that doesn't work, there's probably something wrong with the files.
@MonsterEnvy: We can't do anything unless alpha 2 has this problem as well.

Ok, so I switched to Alpha 2, and loaded the CyberiaStyle 7 theme. Everything is displaying fine (banners, backgrounds), but the jackets and the 3D items are still being shown with a messed up look. I guess can steer clear of jackets until a proper fix arrives
EDIT: I did some searching on my own, and found out that my graphic card settings could be the cause, so I changed some settings around, and now everything is displaying perfectly.
And I can care less about the glitch with the scoring on Alpha 2, since all I care is having fun.

@FlameyBoy: There is no cache. What I noticed is that it reads certain files, and ignores others. I'm guessing the format is the problem.

Format is probably an issue: try using an image editor to save as a PNG, even if it already is a PNG. There is a cache, though, it's just in %appdata%.
