No, it's not "Who was the announcer," but rather, does anyone have a list of ALL the Japanese lines he says, or can someone help me with a question I have about what he says / can someone help me with a line he says?
I've actually been digging through the PS2 game for fun - to see if I can figure out how things work. When it comes to sounds - sound effects, announcer lines, song previews, menu music , etc, and noticed that it seems the game references an enormous array - and have been trying to map out each value, and the sound file they refer to.
The problem is, being a perfectionist/accuracy freak, I haven't a clue as to one of the lines - in Japanese - and would rather not guess what it is he says for the sake of my documentation, the announcer exclaims it when doing moderately well... starts with a w ... wa-something, watati? SOUNDS like that, but how is actually spelled/said? >_< I feel like a total idjit.
(slightly offtopic, but I have actually been able to insert custom music into MAX2JP, haven't gotten things QUITE right, as it plays choppily as hell, but still really exciting )

His name is Londell "Taz" Hicks actually. And yes, he was the MAX/MAX2/EXTREME/SuperNOVA announcer.

"Let's Do the Rain Dance" |
The line seems likely to be "Watari! WATARI!" and in this case, it's taken to mean one of the following:
"Pass! PASS!"
"Move! MOVE!"
"Cross! CROSS!" (as in, crossovers?)
Alternatively, it could be "Watarii! WATARII!", which would be more like "High! Higher!"
I'm sort of working on secondhand knowledge (thanks, chewi!), but hopefully that can help.

The only other Japanese line I can pick up from that announcer is "Ashita ga aru sa", which translates to "There is a tomorrow". Which happens to be similar to "There's always a tomorrow." I heard this line mostly on EXTREME, and when you fail. Don't recall ever hearing it in SuperNOVA or SuperNOVA2.

I've never heard that in extreme. Nor does the sm 3.9 or beware simulation have it.

'Ashita ga aru sa' is the first thing that came to my head as well, and it's the only Japanese line I could remember from Max - Extreme.

It sounds confusingly like he's saying "Asht y llawr sa" in welsh... Which is completely jibberish, and means something like "Ash and bone put down"

Any links to it? I've played Max-Extreme For a WHILEEEE.. Never heard it in my life.
EDIT: I REMEMBER IT, ITS "ASH KA LA AR SAH..... GAME OVER" Then it goes to the Ranking list. (extreme)
EDIT2: Here is the link. The DDRMAX Announcer file name says "Hasta La marca" for some reason when it clearly doesn't say that at all.

Speaking of the announcer from that era, in DDR MAX arcade, there's a line that I swear is "God will come to you" which is a fairly common mid-song line, and additionally, really weird. Anyone confirm/correct that?

Actually it's "Gods come to you!". It normally happens when you're doing well when playing.

That line has been asked about before in the itnernets - in other sites, and I believe the answer people got was "Ashita ga aru sa!" (for "There's always a tomorrow"?)
