So I've been reading up on OLED, and it pretty much "pwns" LCD and Plasma in terms of efficiency and color.
Not to mention the refresh rate is much faster, with 0.01 millisecond response time. I want to confirm; the chances of playing a music game on this with no lag is high, correct?
Also, I've never bought an HDTV, so I'm holding out on this. As much as there is HDTVs that are around $500, full HD and reasonable sizes, OLED might be the way to go for me in experiencing music games and for my Wii U, as it will be my first HD game system.

I'm thinking of getting one if it's confirmed to have a <1ms response time like CRTs. I have a 360 and a PS3 on my LCD HDTV, and really hate calibrating Guitar Hero and especially DDR to it. If and when I get one, my LCD will be moved to the living room.

I think my dad is actually waiting to buy one of these... I hope he does.
Edit: Until then we have the 1080i rear projection TV downstairs (and my sister has an HDTV in her room).

That sounds promising, though it's also worth noting that lag has as much to do with the software as it does with the hardware. Processing the interlaced signal from IIDX for display on a progressive screen like an LCD takes time as well, as does any other image processing you do on it (all of which adds lag). I have a Dell LCD monitor (the U2410) which actually handles IIDX pretty well with regards to lag, but the image is horribly flickery and looks terrible. On the other hand it looks great on my Bravia but I need to set Empress to like -2.4 or around that before the timing is right.
Basically it's the kind of thing that differs so much from setup to setup (we're not even counting audio lag from the sound system here) that some means of calibration is almost a necessity, preferably automatic. I think Harmonix had the right idea with Rock Band 2 - they actually built a camera and microphone into the guitar so the game could basically calibrate itself.

Forgot PS2 games aren't progressive, thus still obtaining some sort of lag. All in all, still can't wait for an [inexpensive] OLED so that I could move with the times, finally.

"Oh god what I have dooooone?!" |
Do what I do. PS2 or PC audio > non-processing stereo, Video/HDMI > TV.
Ignore all visual lag and play with the music for the fun of it. (Because every time I try and PA/FA I get PISSED off.)
edit - Although it's mostly my fault. Entirely my fault actually. Some of it might be pad hyper sensitivity, and some of it is quite probably wireless keyboard lag too.
oh and another edit, since I figure I should post something on topic -
I want OLED screens, but I also really want the option to have quite literally ALL scaling and processing turned off.
The day a manufacturer lets us display our crappy 480i resolutions centred on a 1080p screen, the day we can play DDR again properly. Hah.

I just play Stepmania on a computer that's connected to my TV. The timing is apparently a little early but I'm used to it.

Depends on the input signal, and whether or not the TV has up scaling/image processing. Just because the screen itself claims to have such a delay doesn't mean that its actually true.

I'm guessing that with OLED you would be able to play DDR PS3 games with no lag. There might still be a little lag with Wii and PS2 DDR's however... It would be cool if it eliminated lag altogether. I would definitely buy one.

I'll still have my heavy CRT here...or give it away to my friend, while I play Wii U (HD console) on an OLED. Music games take over my life, but I really need to play whatever is coming out next year! lol.
If it does lag on early IIDX games, that would suck though.
