I was just thinking that all the music in DDR over the years usually came from certain genres. While I felt that a lot of what was selected was really hit and miss(more miss IMOH). I was always interested in how they went about selecting the music that the bemani artist used over the years.
It just seems like the quality of the music was always up and down over the years. The best stuff usually came in the form of KOs or Liscenses. I Truly miss the dancemania liscenses. I wish the bemani artist would have worked on putting more realistic music in the DDR series.
It's what admirio(sp?) is doing with pump, it's paid off in spades. I just think that overall the DDR series needs edgier music. It's song selection needs to grow so that there can be a wider appeal. I feel like konami focuses too much on that bubblegum pop stuff. It might be popular in japan, but there is so much more than can be done. Even if they start pushing edgier music, the lack of quality of note chart writing would destroy anything positive that quality music would bring to any mix. To clarify, I'm not talking about Rap or R&B. To me, those genres have no business in music game.
Also, I think being able to tweak the interface would be awesome. Being able to give the player a few choices in how certain aspects of the UI would be (example: IIDX UI choices). I can't be the only the only one who thinks of stuff like this. I know that music likes are fairly subjective to region, but there's room for that sort of customization now.

I always thought that bemani crossovers were a huge step in the right direction. I'm such a huge fan of pop'n music and we don't have enough crossovers from pop'n music. The IIDX crossovers were getting me excited till I saw how the songs were cut and what kind of note charts were written for the songs. If they are going to treat them so badly I'd rather they not put them in to begin with.
DDR needs more electronic music. D&B,Glitch,IDM. I can dream can't I!

It needs to expand its borders to other Genres. Everyone has death toned their taste in Techno and Disco. Nows a good time to put in some rock or alternative like "Scooby Snacks", Chevelle, RHCP, Nickelback, and dare I say it.....My Chemical Romance.
Also some more Pop'n Music crossovers, please?

The Internet's hatred of Nickelback is one thing I will never understand. I had no idea that they were hated more than most other artists until very recently in fact.
I'm not entirely sure that their music is suited to DDR, however. Then again Detroit Rock City really surprised me, so who knows?

Detroit Rock City probably works because of its speed. Nickelback doesn't really do those kind of songs.
Although I wouldn't be surprised if down the like someone attempted Rockstar. Not me though, I just don't like it that much. Also, I think Na Na Na by MCR would work very well. I know, I've tried it.

I'm sorry but, Nickelback's singing is downright atrocious. Musically, they're ok.

There's a young French house producer who's got a HUGE future ahead of him.
His name is Madeon. His music is absolutely awesome.

I would be interested in a good 80's early 90's freestyle/house mix, including all the classics.
even a few good songs in any version really.

I personally feel there needs to be a LOT more diverse electronic music in DDR. Yes, the series has had its fair share of electronic music in various installments, but now there are so many other sub-divisions and styles of electronic music that could be used that would both make for unique, diverse song selections and more creative step charts. Sub-divisions/styles I'm thinking of are:
Dubstep (not really talking about modern dubstep, like Skrillex. I'm talking about how Dubstep started out in a darker and more subdued tone. Artists like Burial and Benga are good examples of what I mean.)
IDM
Electro/Hip-Hop fusion
Grime
Acid House
Hell, throw some turntablism in there (Scratch Perverts, I'm looking at you)
In general, I think that the staff of DDR should really discover more underground artists. It's understandable why they have chosen mainstream artists and some of their #1 hits to be in certain DDR titles, but in my opinion, underground artists are a LOT more worth listening to, as their styles are very unique compared to what we're hearing on the mainstream front. I wouldn't even mind seeing some vogue beats on DDR.

@NEMESetup "Do you really think you have what it takes, to stand with the mighty scratch perverts?"
But logically I applaud them for using Modern songs. Sure it sounds like crap but honestly DDR has a reputation for being "That werid Techno Exercise game." Go ahead and challenge me on that becaues 9/10 a lot of people will say something along the lines of that. Modern music is what helps them get noticed and I encourage them to keep using it to attract more people to the game. (and maybe hopefully this site afterwords) All be it your suggestion is nice, and it has worked in games like Guitar Hero and DJ Hero but this DDR we are talking about here. Adding more underground music will make it more degrading to the public then it already is. (Even though I think everyone is entirely wrong but thats just my opinion.)

Believe me, I get what you're saying. And I fully understand why they would rely more on the mainstream tunes as that is what the general public is used to and that it will help attract those that aren't DDR fans like us. I'm not saying that it doesn't make sense for them to do that, I just feel that every now and then they should throw some unknown/underground stuff in there to shake things up a bit and show some more diversity.

my biggest question is why can admiro get it right? pump it up has come a long way while having the best looking ui i've ever seen. sure they might not have 100s of songs like ddr, but it's all about quality. their music spans quite a few genres, and i get my d&b fix.
pump is hardcore as you want to be while still adding innovative charts and features. konami has lost too much ground to be competative with admiro. if i didn't love itg so much i'd follow right behind windeu and buy a pump cabinet.
