i vaguely remember someone from outphase saying it was a new version of Lunatic Rave, but i don't recall exactly, and the site that i saw the post on is down now, so i can't even reconfirm this

Yeah, it's the same engine that will/would be used for the next Lunatic Rave, when/if that actually comes out. I think it was started for plugout4 Arcade Edition and then during development, the Simple BMS Player was branched off of it for an alpha release or something like that.
I don't know what's going on with it though, as lavalse has been doing a good job of playing dead (at least to the general public) since shortly after when SBMP scores were disallowed from the Internet Ranking. In fact, I think plugout4 Arcade Edition is like the only thing that has happened since then that really shows that lavalse is still doing anything.

wow that's a shame because plugout4 AE is leagues better than what LR2 beta3 currently is right now
at the very least it doesn't force my quad core laptop to run at 80% or higher
