I hope that this thread hasn't been done already. I'm curious as to how you play your stepmania, as in what options you use. I'll start.

I also forgot to mention that I play with DDRMAX2 scoring. SM 3.9 doesn't have SN2 scoring.

I used to play on 3.9b but now I've switched to 5.1 because of the skin and theme. I'm still trying to get used myself with the timing window on 5.1 so I just left the Judgement on default.

@xin: SuperNova2 scoring scores songs across ALL difficulties out of a possible one million points. Correct me if i'm wrong but I think Marvelous=(1,000,000/Arrow Count [rounded to the nearest 10pts.]), Perfect=Marvelous-10pts, and Greats=(Perfects-10)/2.
Extreme timing uses a max score of foot rating*10 million. (i.e. a 7 footer would have a max score of 70,000,000). But the scoring is progressive, meaning that it's either exponential or logarithmic (not linear) scoring. The start of the song gets significantly fewer points per arrow than towards the end of the song. I don't know the written formula for the Extreme (or rather MAX2 [7th Mix]) scores.

Strictly speaking, Extreme's scoring is quadratic. Assuming all Perfects (or Marvelouses), the second step is worth twice as much as the first; the third step is worth 3 times as much as the first, the 500th step is worth 500 times as much as the first, etc.

So when factoring in freezes, do they count as a whole step as well? And don't jumps count for double points in Extreme's scoring? (seeing how jumps add 2 to the combo) Is it overall steps counted (and O.K.'s for freeze notes) in a song, or overall combo for Extreme scoring?
(i.e. would a 500-step song with zero freezes multiply by the same base number as say, 450 notes with 50 freezes? assuming the song is same difficulty.)

I use Judgement 6 because i think that's on par with arcade timing, as opposed to CS versions' 4, I believe. I get far too many AAA's and single-digit great AA's on home versions up to 9 footers. On 6 judgement, I rarely ever get AAA's, and get mostly AA's and A's on harder stuff and B's usually on 10 footers. (i'm not that good at 10's. I can pass some, but fail most). This is on the pad.
On the keyboard I can play up to 12 footers and still get B's on Judgement 6. I usually fail 13's.
I've tried Judgement 7 before, and it's not that much harder than 6. But Justice on the other hand....that even makes it hard to pass even Beginner mode, let alone full combo it.

I have more than one setup for Stepmania.
The one on my flash drive, used for making stepcharts and judging/playing simfiles from simfile events (on keyboard):
Version: 3.9+ Redux
Theme: CyberiaStyle 6 (added Speed mod shortcuts, Play Mode switching, and more colors for % score)
Announcer: None
NoteSkin: cyb-note
Life Difficulty: 4
Judge Difficulty: 7 (I've been told 6 is close to IIDX's timing, and I've been trying to improve my bad timing)
Progressive Lifebar: 0
BG Brightness: 80%
No Random/Generic visualizations
Windowed at 1024x768
Event Mode is On
Autogen Steps are On
Percentage Scoring is On
I also have a setup identical to that one on Judge 4 for playing on the pad (when I get a chance to, which I haven't since before the ZiV War Games 2011).
My Stepmania 5 setup, where I put any new keyboard charts or simfile packs:
Version: 5 alpha 1a
Theme: CyberiaStyle 7
Announcer: None
NoteSkin: midi-note-3d or cyb-note
Life Difficulty Scale: 1.0 (as said in the options, not the title screen)
Judge Difficulty Scale: 1.0 (as said in the options, not the title screen)
Progressive Lifebar: 0
BG Brightness: 70%
No Random/Generic visualizations
Fullscreen at 1440x900 (native)
Event Mode is On
Autogen Steps are Off
Auto Set Style is On (at least on default based themes, I don't know/remember if CS7 supports it)
Percentage Scoring is On
