9 (14)Yes, another Simfile Shuffle Revival. After Gameoson found this hard to step, I thought I might check the song out and I decided to step it. I had finished stepping one chart way before Spork! (the original submitter) decided to step it himself for the Qualifier round of TOI6. I found this song fitting of gimmicks so don't be too shocked when you see blue- and yellow-note syndrome.
(This is also the only file I had time to finish. It's only like 7:30 PM and I'm so tired. I'm going to bed soon so I can be rested for school tomorrow morning)

At the top of my head I remember the sync being a little shaky at times. I know old rock songs like this can be difficult to sync perfectly but it went off by a fair amount at one point. I'll be able to go more in-depth tomorrow when I have more time, send me a PM as a reminder so I don't forget.

Welcome to yet another episode (Who What Who What, Road to G6, When Love Takes Over) of "CuzcoBlocko has no idea what the hell he is doing anymore".
Oh dear oh dear, what do we have here?
First, I really love this song, but the biggest problem I seem to have here is that the cut doesn't seem to flow well under 2:30.
Second... honestly, this song isn't as steppable as I thought. At least, I can't seem to do it. Journal of an Unlucky Girl, a song that was also difficult for me to step, is miles ahead of this. and are particularly sloppy, and 
, even though I like it the most... is... awkward. So many particularly ridiculous things are going on across the chart, it'll frustrate many of you for sure. The particular gimmicks I added actually add up to +2 to the difficulties (otherwise, it'd be 2/4/6/8/10), and while I suppose it could work on 3.9 and oITG (it has rolls, though)... just use SM5 on this one. Please.
Uh... ...yeah. ...this entire simfile is a train wreck. ;-; Hopefully someone here enjoys it (I don't want my streak of avoiding 0 points every time ending!).
(I sent a video of a draft of the challenge chart to Benpai and he said it can be uploaded, as long as there's at least one stutter and one wave)
Bump: Audio quality has been improved immensely. And a glitch in the .sm and .ssc has been fixed.

That aside, Junko’s basic chart had some slightly questionable patterns in the beginning, and still a bit of a steep difficulty curve, though the lower is isn’t as low.), Rock The Club (it felt like there was a strange doublestep near the end of the basic chart), Yava (This could benefit from a beginner chart or easier light chart)

NOTE: I’ll only review the two hardest charts in each song, although I’ll try to make them as in-depth as possible. If it it’s short, then I likely had no issues with it.
AFRO KNUCKLE
The chart had a nice use of gallops, and although they got slightly repetitive due to the song, there was consideration for variation as well.
That was a pretty fun chart. I liked the use of freezes, and the 32nds were satisfying to hit.
Aluminum City
The chart was well-balanced. I enjoyed the choices of freeze arrows used to emphasize certain musical elements.
This was quite an interesting chart. I liked the 16th and 24th staircase bursts used throughout the song. I guess my only critique is that I wish the 8th note instrumentals in the chorus (such as in m18) were addressed more prominently, but since the arrows are following the drum and bass during those parts, it’s not a large issue.
Bad Pitched
The chart is well-balanced. I enjoyed the use of crossover patterns, and the use of freezes starting at b108 (after the slowdown) were nicely handled. I also enjoyed the jump freezes and steps in last portion of the chart (after the stops).
The chart flowed smoothly and addressed a majority of the song’s musical components. I particularly liked your uses of freezes that sort of “glossed over” certain sections of the song (like in m16) and the freeze jump-and-steps that emphasized the bass (starting from b173).
Cosmic Cat
First off, I really like the song and graphics, haha. Secondly, while I felt the beat invited itself for gimmicks, I’m kind of glad the charts don’t go that direction. The constant BPM works well for this song.
The chart is planned out well and flows smoothly. I especially like the progression of difficulty in the notes starting at b128-b192, where it first focuses on the bass and percussion, then moves onto the overlying synth notes, then eventually becomes more stream-driven. Overall, it’s a nice chart.
The chart flows really well and hits many of the musical elements in the song nicely. I feel a little mixed about the streams used at b96 and b160 (they’re fun to follow, but the notes they follow sound a bit too subtle for patterns like that). Other than that, it’s an enjoyable and challenging ride (nice 753 combo, btw).
Incomplete
The chart is okay. While the steps are sensible, some patterning decisions felt arbitrary and randomly shifted between beats they wanted to emphasize (for example, the gallops at b 32 don’t repeat themselves when the verse starts again at b48, and double taps seem to appear at random from b 84 to b89). I also felt the chart started a bit too early and could waited 4 measures at the beginning. However, the gallops used during the chorus (starting at b104) were sensible.
The chart is neatly planned and easy to follow. I particularly enjoyed the 8ths and 16ths streams used throughout, although I feel this chart could use more note variety and density (for example, I thought the freeze arrows used at b104 were missed opportunities for more complex patterns, and many of the 16ths triplets, such as from measure 16 to 24, feel stiff). I’m also felt that the shock arrows used starting b136 were a bit out of place, and if you wanted to go that direction, maybe spread them out across the entire chart, rather than in one section.
Journal of an Unlucky Girl
I enjoyed the chaotic nature of the song and charts, although I do have a gripe with certain BPM gimmicks that made some notes hard to time and anticipate (like at b148.25, which made a roll on the hard chart hard to hit).
The chart is good. It’s a much more straightforward counterpart to the hard chart, which is a plus. I also liked the way the notes stepped the underlying synth notes at b150.
I really like the twists and crossovers used in this chart. There were also clever uses of bombs and rolls, particularly when using the bombs to indicate the “1,2,3,4” sound bite at b6 and b334 and the roll at to impy another yell sound at b6. I am, however, not a huge fan of the other bombs placed in the chart (which leans more towards personal preference). There also seemed to be some awkwardly timed notes, like the 16th roll at b148.25 (the BPM change didn’t make it easier to hit, either). Other than that, it was enjoyable.
Joyride
I really liked the chart’s use of freezes. The jump step on b65 was acceptable, but the one at b81 would force the player to face backwards momentarily, which I am not a big fan of. The final crossover steps at b360 and the final jump didn’t make as much sense, however, and I feel could use a redo. Other than that, the chart is planned out well.
The chart was nicely stepped and had some good twists. I liked how you kept with the bass for a good chunk of the song (like those 8th triples from b155 to b167). I also like how you force the player to double-step or spin at the end there with those bombs. A bit evil, but it certainly shows some planning and intention. Good chart overall.
Kongara Girl
The song choice certainly… stands out. I really love the beat, though. My only gripe is that the background video got a little distracting (for more reasons than one lol), but mainly because the images would sometimes scroll up along with the notes, which would distract the gameplay.
The chart fits the song really well! I immensely enjoyed the jumps and skips that go along with the bass starting at b60. There is one slight issue at b77.75, where an up arrow begins a pattern that’s meant to be hit with the left foot, which could lead to double-stepping since the player’s likely used to hitting up using his/her right foot. But other than that, I really enjoyed it.
The chart flows nicely and has a good sense of consistency throughout. This was a very clean and organized chart. I enjoyed the crossover patterns and small 16th swing gallops scattered throughout the song.
I really appreciate the effort put into the arrows’ timing placements. The chart really went forth to address the swing beats, and I’m pleasantly surprised by your placement of 192nds just to make it match. I also enjoyed those 16th streams starting at b175.
Night Landscape
This was a good, clean chart. The 16th streams and drills made sense, as well as the use of bombs. While I thought there could have been something more going on in the first 7 measures, it was overall nice.
I really enjoyed both the song and the chart accompanying it. I also liked the spacing at the beginning of the chart. The streams at b124 were visually easy to follow and fun to play, as well as the 32nd trills. Overall a good, challenging chart that requires incredibly fast reflexes.
Nightmare before oversleep
This was a nice and tame chart that stepped really well to the music. For some reason I just found the steps that hit to the instrumentals exactly incredibly satisfying (like those set of freezes and steps from m33-38, the steps from b163-b171, and other instances throughout). I also liked the use of 8th note gallops throughout the song.
This chart has some fun parts to it, particularly the streams appearing near the end. I also thought the use of jumps at b132 was an interesting choice. However, I feel some of the patterns run choppily and don’t create a good flow for the player. For example, the pauses between the triplets and the staircase starting at b154 break up a flow for the player, and would be hard to keep good judgement on unless they were holding the bar to “catch” each set of arrow bursts. I feel this instance applies for the staircase streams starting at b210 as well (I think the rather fast BPM causes this issue; at a lower speed this wouldn’t be as much of a concern). Other than that, this is an interesting mix-up of patterns.

This was a really well-thought out chart. The way the notes hit to the bass throughout the song was incredibly satisfying.
I really enjoyed the amount of consideration that went into this chart. I thought the bomb-reinforced crossover-and-back steps at m8 to m10 were a clever touch. I also really liked how the freeze notes were used to emphasize high pitches in the vocals. Overall, it was amazing.
Panama
It’s a nice chart. I liked the use of freezes to emphasize certain guitar/percussion sounds. However, I thought the jump at b57.5 was questionable because it had the potential of making the player face backwards. I also noticed a double-step at b188, although because it’s spaced by a 4th beat, it’s not as big of an issue. I thought the use of bombs at b64-b68.5 was a unique way of expressing the guitar notes.
It’s a decent chart. The streams played out comfortably, and the notes fit the percussion, guitar (especially at b63.5-104) and vocals of the song well.
Rock the Club
I really enjoyed the song and BPM gimmicks in this one. Most were sensible and fun to play with (especially that gradual speed-up on b44 and again at b219). Reading the notes you guys made in edit mode regarding these changes were also quite interesting.
I really enjoyed the placement of the bombs and rolls; they made sense and had distinctive purposes (such as the reinforced footswitches at b60.25 and b92.25 and note implications at b183). Oftentimes bombs in user simfiles are used sporadically with no rhyme or reason and detract from the chart, but in this one I felt as though they belonged there and added to it, which is a laudable feat. I also enjoyed the 192nd swings, although it starts to get quite chaotic from b223 onward; I feel the complex timings of these note clusters would make them awkward to time and step on foot. Other than that, good job!

I thought the 16th freezes amidst the 8th note freeze streams (like at b120.75, b128.75, and 136.75) were interesting and highlighted the electronica notes nicely. I also thought the 192nd swings were handled really nicely (and in my opinion, seemed a bit more manageable to read and play at b223-onwards compared to the hard chart). Again, I really liked the purposeful nature of the bombs used, whether to highlight implied notes (particularly at the two speedups and at b112), or to get the player to move their feet or jump in a sensible way (which many user simfiles unfortunately don’t consider, whether intentionally or not). This is a great chart.
Spectrum
I really enjoy this song. That being said, I somewhat disagree some of the BPM changes. The beginning portion is fine (although a speed up could have been appropriate after b35) as well as the slow down at b83, but I didn’t feel the 260 BPM speed up fit right (although the pause after the freeze at b109 was nice). That being said…
I enjoyed the variation in the chart, although there was an excess of double stepping, and while you did provide a chance for the player to footswitch to avoid that, like b94.5, there were other times when it became too vague (it’s hard to point out exact places, but for example, from b17.750 to 22.5, the random double taps (and one triple tap) make it hard to tell when I should employ a footswitch to avoid double-stepping). Unless the intention was to simply created a crowded chart that required double-stepping, I feel it could be re-stepped. There was also a glaring double-step/half-spin pattern from b100 to b108, but since those are technically 8th notes at 130 BPM, they’re forgivable.
There is a lot of variation to this chart. However, there are a few inconsistencies and issues I have noticed. There seems to be an unintentional spin happening from b20.5 to b26.5, which I’m unsure was meant to be executed as a spin or double-step. I also felt there could have more than just quarter note jumps between b83-b91 (technically half measure jumps at 130 BPM), especially when there’s an 8th and 16th note stream following right after. I also felt that the 16th staircase burst felt a bit out of place with only the 4th note freezes and jumps preceding and following it, and could have worked better if they were surrounded by more 8th notes. However I enjoyed the jump-step patterns from b141 onwards.
Thing Called Love (Culture Code Remix)
For me, this file had a lot of potential. That being said, there were a few issues I had with the song choice. The main issue was the bare vocals in the middle of the song, which I feel made it unfit for stepping. I also thought the gimmick that makes the chart skip a measure was a bit unnecessary. I also thought the song itself was a sort of bland (but that is personal taste).
The use of freeze notes at the beginning were interesting. However, I’m not really a fan for stepping exactly to the bare vocals in the middle of the chart (since there’s no beat to rely on and focuses purely on the visual aspects, which is a bit counterintuitive in a rhythm-based music game). If it were up to me, I would have started with a freeze note for a couple measures and ease the chart into more tangible patterns as the beat returns. Overall, I feel this chart is a work in progress.
There were some interesting ideas in this chart, like the 12th note footswitches and the notes/jumps immediately following the end of a freeze (like in b78). However, I thought the transition of the steps from the vocals to the beat in the middle was a bit clunky (it felt a bit weird immediately going from off-beat spaced out notes to eighth note streams). The jump-step patterns at 240 onwards are also questionable, since even though they were meant to emphasize the vocals, they did so somewhat inconsistently. The moderate BPM makes this section manageable, but I feel that portion of the chart could have been handled differently. I’m also unsure of the freeze-steps at b278 onwards. I feel they could have been their own separate notes, rather than being attached to the freezes. Overall, I feel this chart’s also a work in progress.

There is an excellent use of candle patterns and crossovers near the beginning and 16th streams throughout. Overall the chart is well-made.
As a shock arrow chart, this is a good. I spotted one up arrow issue at b123, but other than that, I don’t have much issue. I especially enjoyed the portion of the chart starting at m16, and the jumps at m24.

For me, this file had a lot of potential. That being said, there were a few issues I had with the song choice. The main issue was the bare vocals in the middle of the song, which I feel made it unfit for stepping. I also thought the gimmick that makes the chart skip a measure was a bit unnecessary. I also thought the song itself was a sort of bland (but that is personal taste).
The use of freeze notes at the beginning were interesting. However, I’m not really a fan for stepping exactly to the bare vocals in the middle of the chart (since there’s no beat to rely on and focuses purely on the visual aspects, which is a bit counterintuitive in a rhythm-based music game). If it were up to me, I would have started with a freeze note for a couple measures and ease the chart into more tangible patterns as the beat returns. Overall, I feel this chart is a work in progress. There were some interesting ideas in this chart, like the 12th note footswitches and the notes/jumps immediately following the end of a freeze (like in b78). However, I thought the transition of the steps from the vocals to the beat in the middle was a bit clunky (it felt a bit weird immediately going from off-beat spaced out notes to eighth note streams). The jump-step patterns at 240 onwards are also questionable, since even though they were meant to emphasize the vocals, they did so somewhat inconsistently. The moderate BPM makes this section manageable, but I feel that portion of the chart could have been handled differently. I’m also unsure of the freeze-steps at b278 onwards. I feel they could have been their own separate notes, rather than being attached to the freezes. Overall, I feel this chart’s also a work in progress.WILDFIRE!!
I like how the steps go in sync with the beat and vocals. It’s a tame and organized chart. The 8th and 16th streams are fun to follow and play. They are stepped to the instrumentals and vocals nicely.Yava!
There is an excellent use of candle patterns and crossovers near the beginning and 16th streams throughout. Overall the chart is well-made. As a shock arrow chart, this is a good. I spotted one up arrow issue at b123, but other than that, I don’t have much issue.
