I want to try to port the default 4.0 CVS noteskins to 5.1 (the noteskins still work on 5.0 with the only difference being a faster animation that goes with the beat). Bold noteskin falls back to the default for hold graphics.

To use these on 5.0, rename the default to "sm4" or something and for bold, change the fallback noteskin from default to the renamed SM4 default noteskin.
I know I can port existing 3.9 noteskins to 5.0 by using another as a base and changing up the images. But how do I port to 5.1? I don't really know how the 5.1 noteskin system works...

I know how to do holds (put the hold and hold end in one graphic) but do I need to make the hold longer?
Mine and mine explosion graphics? 5.0 has the 4.0 alpha ones. But for the CVS ones I have to uninstall SM and extract the images from there. How can I get 2 SM versions installed at the same time?

Just make em portable, create a portable.ini file in the Stepmania folder and copy or move it where you need it, uninstall/install the other versions that you need and repeat the process. I have 4 different SM5 versions to test using this method.

No, 5.0 noteskins don't work on 5.1 because there's a new noteskin system. What I'm trying to do is port my noteskins to 5.1, not copy 5.0 noteskins to another build.

Thanks, I will use this as a base to port bold, which was one of my favorite noteskins from the SM4 era.
I added mine graphics and lifts, and ported bold.
Original mine graphics and lifts ripped from SM4 CVS 2008-01-03
Now, trying to add a 192nd color, but when I add it the arrows appear cut off/broken.
