Hi everyone!

I've ported Hurtpiggypig's techno noteskin to sm5. I based it on Hanubeki's noteskin.
^Thanks for you two ^

My todo list:
- make the new style
- apply the new style's colors to old
- pink center for techno
- beat colored notes
- remove unused files
- new explosion
- sm5.1

Looks good so far. But the note colored one could also go under "not done yet".

Center needs a new receptor instead of falling back to hanubeki's one.

Now i'm just not sure how to make the colors and the colored holds too.
I have too much questions Big Grin

- what exactly is half beat coloring?
- is it possible to have beat coloring and colorful holds? (the base beat color on sm5? and how to make it for real beat color holds for sm5.1?)
-With beats coloring noteskins, i usually see just one color in game and rarely a second. so what about making colorful notes like how it's made now with a second color for each color for the beats? beats would have 2 color alternating(?). Or the beat colors should be all the colors?
- Also not sure about the two player mode colors Big Grin

But i've made the arrows look perfect now and also made a roll.

http://i.imgur.com/f1K1jly.png - i have to recolor it for all the notes

Beat color holds, only works on SM 5.1, I dont really know how to explain things, you may want to ask Jousway or Kyzentun as they know about noteskins

Half beat coloring: Makes the noteskin "halved", and make it look as if you're playing at 2x BPM. So for example:

Normal:
4th - Red
8th - Blue
12th - Purple
16th - Yellow
24th - Pink
32nd - Orange
48th - Cyan
64th - Green

Halved:
4th - Red
8th - Red
12th - Purple
16th - Blue
24th - Purple
32nd - Yellow
48th - Pink
64th - Orange

Third beat coloring: Removes every triplet color, so 12th would be red, 24th blue, and 48th yellow in that case.

For the beat colored techno noteskin, I suggest a color scheme based on pump's rhythm noteskin:
4th - Blue
8th - Red orange
12th - Pink
16th - Yellow
24th - Purple
32nd - Teal
48th - Yellow orange
64th - Green
192nd - Gray (same color as the fallback roll in the original 3.95 noteskin)

Thank you! But as i can see in my simfiles, with normal beats coloring, everything is mostly red, rarely blue and might purple, but the other colors are almost non existant, is it true?

What about thisQuestion Mark

Dance single:
4th: red (vertical) blue (sides)
8th: orange (v) teal (s)
12th: yellow (v) green (s)
16th: pink (v) purple (s)
-repeat-

Techno single:
always pink center
4th: yellow (v) green (s) blue (bottom corners) red (top corners)
8th: orange (v) teal (s) purple (bc) pink (tc)
-repeat-

Dance multi p1:
4th: red (v) orange (s)
8th: yellow (v) pink (s)
-repeat-

Dance multi p2:
4th: blue (v) teal (s)
8th: green (v) purple (s)
-repeat-

I'm not sure are these modes even existing? (couple or rutine for techno)
Techno multi p1:
hot colors, no beats coloring

Techno multi p2:
cold colors, no beats coloring

And Pump mode should be something like dance with yellow center Smile

What difficulty are you playing on? If you play mostly easy songs, that sounds about right, but if you play hard stuff then I think something's off.

As for your proposed colors, if you're going to do beat-based coloring, every arrow of the same beat should be the same color, otherwise you're defeating the purpose. So for 4th notes, every arrow, up/down/sides/diagonals/centers should all be red (or whatever color you choose). Every 8th note should be blue, every 12th purple, etc. Couples/routine is the exception, where you should have every P1 arrow (regardless of beat or position) be one color and every P2 arrow be a different color, or at the very least be immediately obvious which player the arrow is intended for.

Then my idea will be the beginner version Big Grin I'm on lvl 5 now, i'm not a pro. And a lot of people i invite to play are on lvl 2-3, maybe one on lvl 7 and one on the same as me Smile

Should I do every direction or the diagonal and down direction is enough? I've find that it's buggy with the rotate command. can we also move an arrow left-right with lua?
my problem is, in techno mode, up and down should be 5-5 pixels to the left and right and also left and right should be 4-4 pixels moved towards the sides. I made it with the images before. Maybe it's a bug in stepmania?

I think it's better to have every arrow no matter what direction it is the same color for that beat. This is how it's like in the default techno noteskin (it is rhythm colored).

I suggest something same as the pump colors:
4th - Blue
8th - Red
12th - Pink
16th - Yellow
24th - Purple
32nd - Teal
48th - Orange
64th - Green
192nd - Gray (same as fallback roll color)

What about the techno mines for the SM 3.95 version of the noteskin? Can they be ported to the SM5 version? They look like skulls on light blue gears.

For the rhythm colored noteskin, just down and diagonal is enough, and edit the lua file for rotations:
Down = 0
Left = 90
Up = 180
Right = 270

Diagonal: I will tell you once I find out which fallback diagonal you are using

If fallback diagonal is UpLeft, then:
UpRight = 90
DownRight = 180
DownLeft = 270

For a note colored version, other things I suggest:
Holds blue, rolls gray (5.0)
Note colored holds/rolls (5.1)

I think they are already included, i just don't tested them.
With only two arrows and rotations in lua, this happens also in the default techno noteskin (editor noteskin):

so making every direction has benefits with custom spacing.

My sugestions for dance colors
What do you mean by color coded?

Could someone please show me an example of beat colored holds that have a lot of custom images and not just a color overlay in lua? Smile is it 9(every direction+center) 1x8 colored (if not animated) images for the hold bodies and the same with bottomcaps (for 5.0)?

Is it okay to make an animation with 26 frames? It would be smooth Big Grin but maybe it's an overkill Big Grin

Edit: i think yes, becouse the exlposion animation is the same too

26 frames: That's OK, there used to be a version of delta with 24 frames (12 original + 12 addition)

Name it Down or whatever Tap Note 26x8 for note colored. For column colored, 13x2 will work.

I have a question with holds on SM 5.1. Is the bottom cap now limited to a half square (1/6 off the full height as in the notes.lua comments) so i can't have square (eg 128x128px) bottomcaps as in 5.0? Or the documentation is bad?

http://i.imgur.com/2WhzVLi.png

5.1: 1/6 top 2/3 body 1/6 bottom
5.0: 1/3 1/3 1/3

I dont really know how to explain things for the new noteskin system, ask Jousway or Kyzentun. I do 5.0 noteskins, but IDK about 5.1.
