What are the chances we would be able to get our Bemani games running through the PS4's rumoured ability to emulate some PS2 games?

Would love to see BM CSs' running at a better res !

Video here from digital foundry showing it on star wars games.

Cool, but the chances of ANY Bemani-based game getting a rerelease is near impossible at this point. Games like DDR and the like have too many songs that Bemani no longer has liscense to, so if those games were to ever be rereleased, they would need to be modified to cut out those songs (or Konami could just get the liscenses again).

The thing is, Sony is pretty tight on game modding before re-releasing. I've heard that Sony will only re-release titles as-is, no exceptions. Cases like include Mega Man Legends in particular. When the game was first released, it included liscensed realworld products in the game, and since the rights had expired by the time the PS3 came out, it couldn't be ported. It wasn't until recently that Capcom specifically re-obtained rights to the in-game products that it was finally re-released online.

tl;dr - DDR and other BEMANI games include songs that they can't use and can't cut out of the game.

Not really sure this thread fits the music game forums, but yeah, GadgetJax pretty much nailed it on the head; there's a reason why we never see music games get re-released to digital platforms.

I'm thinking that it's going to be handled in a similar fashion to, if not exactly like, how PS1/2 emulation is handled on the PS3, but with huge improvements in comparison. The unfortunate part is that Sony has been very mum about this whole thing, and the only evidence of this even being worked on was right before the PS4 launched 2 years ago.

As long as we're able to buy and play the games without needing the cloud a la Playstation Now, I think it will be fantastic.

But yeah, the only way you're gonna be able to play the IIDX/DDR CS games with 1080P resolution is by using PCSX2 or similar emulators on your computer.

PS2 games on the PSN store is one thing, and backwards compatibility is another. I can run most BEMANI PS2 games on my Intel Pentium G850 with HD 2000 desktop, so I think the PS4 is more than powerful enough to do both. They're just gonna have to take their time to optimize it so that it's foolproof and ready for public availability. Hopefully backwards compatibility will be a thing.

Speaking of backwards compatibility, I hope Dance Evolution and the DDR Universe series gets supported in 360 emulation too for the Xbox One. Tongue

"five minute white boy challenge"
It's likely you'd probably get one DDR PS2 game (I'd guess EXTREME) re-released and that would be it. Nothing that BEMANI ever made aside from DDR made it big outside of Asia.

Approximately nobody asked for this song to be included. Least popular decision by the Japanese since Nintendo released the Wii U.
