Hi all,

I have a SuperNova cab and the monitor has begun having some issues with the sync. Sometimes the entire picture moves to the left, other times it goes fuzzy, and other times it works just fine. When i fiddle with the sync board inside the cab it seems to cure the issue however it generally happens again a few minutes (or sometimes hours) down the line. I have read that it might be a neckboard issue, or the pots on the sync board are bad, or maybe a cap change? I am not much of an expert in terms of CRT tech so any advice/past experiences from anyone on here would be great.

I took a video last night and uploaded it here (apologies however I am unsure of exactly what monitor is inside the cab, i will check when I get home this evening);

In the meantime, I have been inside the cabinet to have a look around and there is a PS2 inside as im sure you know, providing the game. With this being said, will the output signal still be 15khz? (I have previously converted an old arcade cab to run a MAME PC and had to use Soft15Khz to allow it to work so know the potential issues here). The main reason I ask is that i would like to see about the possibilities of potentially putting an LCD inside the unit to replace the CRT. The CRT looks to be connected via VGA and there is also a spare VGA port on a board in the machine too. Would it be as simple is disconnecting the PS2 hookup to the CRT board and simply using a standard AV cable to a LCD (i have a feeling it wouldn't be as simple as that but hey ho!!)

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Our local arcade's DDR SN2 cab uses LCD monitor. It's awkward because it's fully stretched in widescreen. Can't tell if the input is in sync because their pad is in poor quality, so they are hit or miss.

thats one of the things im worried about in terms of doing an LCD conversion, the aspect ratio. I could probably tinker with the settings of the LCD to show in 4:3 but that might need to be done each time the machine boots with a remote control. not quite the end of the world i suppose!

also have to take in consideration the response times of an LCD, however we regularly play ITG and DDR on the PS2 just using the control pads on our LCD in the living room and weve never had any issues..!

these are the stickers on the back of the monitor.

I also connected a dell VGA monitor to the VGA output on the gameboard and it worked fine with seemingly no lag. However there was still some glitching and image drop out for a split second. Ive noticed there is also a ground wire coming out of the coin mechanism door that isnt connected to anything...will this have any effect on the game at all?

I am wondering if perhaps the issue lies with bad solder joints on the vga port perhaps?
