"PLACE YOUR BET!!"

Last updated: 2015-08-22 10:11pm
Alright I've been getting into a squabble with this guy on Youtube named Pulseman2015. He has this idea in his head that CS Bemani should return and that he thinks in some form, it can. Anyone else have input on this? I've been trying to explain the reasoning as to why it's not happening and that the fact of the matter is that Konami is in financial hell right now, and while AC Bemani does make money for them and still does, Bemani consumer software never really sold that well in either Japan or internationally for those that imported. And also with the state of things, such as Round 1 expanding tremendously and giving players access to the newest Bemani games they offer, plus more and more players buying AC cabinets for their home and all that, I really don't see the need for CS anymore. I explained this all to him, and he still goes on about how CS can be saved and it should return. Anyone wanna shed some light on this and put this to rest?

What i mean by CS is on consoles, iPad and mobile is excluded. Also I'm not against bemani console games coming back, i just don't see it realistically coming back to regular consoles.

Have you seen Pulsemania's IIDX fanfics? They're...something.

Guy is clearly 12 or has something mentally wrong with him, and I fear the only way he'll learn what he's doing wrong is the internet "hard way" (ie becoming the BEMANI community's Chris Chan)

I can't really comment on Bemani as a whole, as I'm a filthy casual who has only really ever played DDR. It doesn't help that music licensing is expensive, plus the more budget nature of the games, combined with the rise of StepMania and such, alongside other games basically one-upping DDR in terms of approach and adoption.

Maybe other Bemani games would fare better, I just don't know if there's much of a market to warrant the investment.

So, this was something that has been brought up (Okay, fine, I brought it up) Guitar Hero and Rock Band are going to have new editions here pretty quick. One has to wonder if those do well, could that encourage Konami to attempt to put out another console release?

I'm sure there's a thousand valid arguments against this. It was already brought up that arcade games make Konami money, while consoles don't. So that's why I said fuck it and posted this. Curious about what anyone might have to say about that.

I'd argue several points that say console versions are not gonna happen any time soon, especially not in an international capacity:

-Guitar Hero Live is coming out as a sort of streaming experience. Even if it's a success, Konami would not be able to capitalize on a similar system. They don't have the infrastructure to host such a bandwidth-demanding service, they don't have a significant-enough production rate to keep people interested with new songs (the arcades get about 3 songs a month if there's no series-wide event, and the Dance Wars followed that model to a t), and most importantly they don't have the budget to get a bunch of licensed hits that would attract casual, a.k.a. the type of users who will lead to the most profit at the least bandwidth cost.

-Rock Band 4 is a conventional disc experience, but it's clearly an experience with a tight budget. There are fewer songs than before, more slots given to independent artists, and online is no longer supported (a sign of how much such infrastructure costs, especially in the current generation). If an American development team with considerable fan support can't make a new game without cutting corners, how exactly would Konami manage?

-There's evidence Konami's budget is tightening as well: for half of 2014 and half of 2015, licenses for the iOs games became less popular and more artists that have established relationships with Konami (i.e. Big Tree Records' collection of artists and piano-JaC), and, starting this summer, they seem to have foregone licenses entirely, with new packs consistently of in-house packs ported from the arcades. Yes, the cost is more negligible, but it's a hard sell if they'd have to do similarly in a mainstream consumer audience that is the physical market.

I actually wouldn't mind seeing this happen, because he's obviously NOT listening to reason and truth about the matter, and has this CS bemani obsession drilled into his mind. Many times I tried to tell him the truth about this, and he is constantly trying to prove me wrong about it. Yeah something is definitely wrong here.

"Gimme a mothaf----n' break!"
I honestly don't even get the point of there being a debate about this. Outside of the mobile related releases, there clearly haven't been any releases or official announcements of any CS BEMANI games since 2011 (correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe DanceDanceRevolution II/hottest party 5 is the latest BEMANI game on a console). If they decide to start releasing console games again, then obviously KONAMI and BEMANI will make it known. And since I'm pretty sure that none of us here work for the company, we have no idea what their plans are, assuming that they have any. So for the time being, just accept the obvious and leave it at that.
